I am wanting to make some sented soap someone at one time told me you can use plain soap and shred it and make scented soaps out of them Does anyone know how to do this? Does anyone have any suggestions Id like to do this as cheaply as I can.

i love making my own soap i buy a plain old natural lye soap base from hobby lobby for about ten dollars you can use plain soap but instead of shredding it down you need to melt it down to its liquid form if you just shred it the scent will just run off of it but if you melt it down to its liquid form the scent will mix into the lye you can use the microwave or a double boiler to melt it down with making your own soap is way less expensive than buying it

This can be a very easy project. You can go to a craft store and pick up fragrance oil (synthetic with no aromatherapy qualities) or essential oil (made from plant materials with aromatherapy properties and often other good qualities). You can then choose a soap base from there or use store purchased unscented soaps. The advantage to the soap base at the craft store is that most are microwavable (if so follow the directions). If you are using one without directions carefully melt the shredded or chopped up soap with water (1 1/2 cups of soap to 1 cup of water usually works well). When it is completely melted then add your fragrance or essential oil to make it smell good. You can then pour it into a baking pan and let sit till solid and cut it into chunks or pour it into molds.
You can also add other things to the soap to make it pretty or finer. Dried herbs or flower petals, coloring, aloe vera, vitamin e oil, and other oils can be some examples. Add in small amounts! Have fun with it!
