A recent comment got me thinking.. are video games really a waste of time?
In my opinion they are not a complete waste of time, depending on how extensive your time spent on them. They can be de-stressors and when you're at home or a work with some free time, why not have fun and absorb yourself in the gaming world. When you're having fun it's not a waste of time. What do you guys think?

Hi antioxidant, whether video games are complete waste of time is a relative thing. It depends upon the extent and motto of use of them. When these are used for a limited time and does not lead to non-performance of other needed tasks, there is no harm in entertaining oneself with video games. However, it is generally addictive in nature and leads to avoidance of more needed things, then it becomes a waste.

Yes, what you said is very true and i've seen it happened. I quite like gaming but i've since learnt to control the amount of time spent on it. Non-performance is definitely the word i'm looking for.

If it makes you happy then it isn't a waste of time. Some people just don't understand that if you don't get money or tangible things from a hobby that doesn't mean they are a waste of time. If they make a person feel good and keeps their brain thinking, gaming among other hobbies, are completely worth the time spent on them in moderation.

I agree. It's a form of relaxation for some people and like everything else, keep it in moderation.

I think it depends on how much time you spend with them - if it is only a few hours a week - it can be very beneficial for relaxing - however, if it comsumes your life it is definately a waste of time.

I don't think gaming is a complete waste of time - relaxation is a requirement and some people's outlet is games. Did you know that there was a recent study in the US that said that gamers are actually more sociable than non-gamers? That they tend to date more, go out more, have fun more, and are more likely to marry?
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Everything that is over is not good. Playing is good but when you spend most of your time doing video games, then that's the time we can say that we you are wasting time.

Like you said it depends on the level of obssession. Many persons sometimes get too obseesed with the games and ignore other aspects of their social lifeI t can also be a good way to destress so it isnt really ba or good ,it has its purpose .It is how it is used

I dont think so.If we select good logical games and spend daily few hours on it,then it can improve our memory power and reasoning ability. But getting addicted to games is the main problem. It can create lot of health problems.

No, i do not think gaming is a waste of time. It just depends on how much time you're spending on it and what sacrifices you're making when you decided to play a game. If you're gaming when you should be studying or completing some work, then ur definitely wasting the valuable time that u could've used for other more productive purposes. Other than that, gaming is fun, stimulating, and they are one way to de-stress from one's busy lifestyle. It's all a matter of how and when you spend ur energy on. With that being said however, beware of gaming addiction!
