cats vs. dogs

before, i used to be an all-dog person, until i started raising a newly-born kitten thrown into the trash bin. it took all my patience and compassion to keep the kitten alive until maturity. from then on, i started loving cats as well as dogs. i find that i can relate with cats more. i like the cat's independence. while dogs would need an occasional pat of approval or affection, cats couldn't care less. i read somewhere that cats treat you as an equal, like a friend, while a dog treats you as a family, or a parent. a dog is reflective of its master. it usually scampers around waiting for its master's command. and it is emotionally transparent. you'll know if a dog is excited, frustrated, angry, hungry. it barks, wags its tail, licks you, or whines. a cat just glides with quiet dignity. i remember one of my cats, shanthi, the last time i saw 'him'. i didn't know he wasn't feeling well, or that he was really sick that time. he just rubs his body on my leg in a regal fashion, and sits on one corner silently. little did i know that was the last of my dear shanthi. while dogs are certainly better in communication than cats, i just like the fact that cats don't pester you like dogs usually do. and i like the cats' sense of curiosity and cleanliness. isn't it that cats usually cover or bury their 'poop', and also try to clean themselves by licking their paws and rubbing their faces? i can say that i'm more of a cat-person now than a dog-person... how about you?
