Beauty ads are another form of apartheid ?

If apartheid is defined as the discrimination of people based on the color of their skin then are not the beauty ads of today racist? The color of the skin that I am talking about is dark skinned and light skinned people of the same society or race. Almost all the cosmetic ads potray dark skinned people as ugly and if you use their product then it will make you fairer and more "beautiful" . As a dark skinned person I find these insulting to people of my skin type to say the least. What do you think it would do the confidence of my kids if since childhood they are made to believe that they will never be beautiful because they are dark skinned. Does anyone else feel as outraged as I do? Let me know what you think about this?

I dont have to ask to see you are from South Africa. It looks to me as if you are all still struck by white things are racist and that every dark person is victimised.Dont generalise rather tackle the company that places the add.On the other hand I have seen alot of racist adds AGAINST white people wich is very sad cause I really think if everyone would stop instigating the matter it will resolve itself. Example : If I jump the qeue in a bank and I push in front of a white person ( and I am white ) I am nasty ,but if I do it to a black person I am a racist. We are all people when will this end ? In fact I feel its racist to a have a goverment that seats a majority of blacks and BEE and previously disadvantaged !! How long are you to ride on the back of apartheid ,damn its been 14 years !!!!

Just have to ask....are you a South African? I am...yes a white South African and I must say I agree with every word that you have said. It is time that everybody starts respecting each other, regardless of what our ancestors did or did not do.

He he he, thanks for the tip I guess thats why these companies have started puting edible stuff into their products, lemon, nuts, orange etc etc. Sometimes it seems these products have more nutrition in them than even the foods we eat.

I think you have a lot of issues that you need to address in the silence of your own mind. Apartheid has been dismantled in South Africa which is a clear admission that it was a wrong thing. People are a little more broadminded these days than a few decades ago. I find beauty in everything and color of the skin is the least of my problems. Poverty and pollution worry me more. Corporate greed worries me more. Cheers!!

Cosmetic companies portray ALL skin colors as ugly, that is the way they sell their products, by making people feel bad about the way they look. My skin tone is very pale so i get to hear how bad i look from the cosmetics and the sun tan lotion companies!
