I have always wanted to learn a second language and wonder which language is the best for me. Since I live in Canada it seems to me that the best would be French as this is the official second language of our country. They used to teach French in school but I wasn't interested enough and never took a second year of it. Once I got older I used to take train rides to Montreal and I got interested in the French people. Although there are now many cultures in Canada and I also think about speaking Chinese as I like the girls in the restaurant. And the Spanish people are really neat too. I met a lot of Spanish people at school. What do you think is the best second language to learn? Crocket.

I'm sorry,I didn't agree with you,The French is the most beautiful language in the world.Learning a language is to rely on environment, since there is so good a environment to you to learn French, why not learn French ?If I were you,I will learn French first and then learn other languages

Stefaxh, I did not want to say anything against any of these people as I truly love all the cultures that I have been involved with. I will take your advice and learn the French language as I have some old addresses of people in Montreal that I have wanted to visit for some time now. Thanks for the advice! Crocket.

Dear Crocket, Since you live in Canada and 1/3 of the population is Frenh speaking, think of Quebec, parts of Manitoba and New Brunswick (the only officially bilingual province)it seems to me that French would be the logical choice. Think of all the pleasure you would get when travelling in Quebec especially outside Montreal if you were able to converse with the local people. You would find them very patient, eager to share their thoughts with you and if you were travelling by car you would travel much safer since you could read all the unilingual French traffic signs. You would not be mystified as to what the sign " Allumez vos phares" means when you enter a tunnel. (Turn on your lights) Think of how interesting it would be if you were to visit Winnipeg and cross over the magnificent bridge to St. Boniface and most everyone would speak French. Other languages such as Chinese and Spanish are also interesting if you are gifted for languages. You could learn more than one.

Dear lindalinda, Crocket here. I am going to take your advice and learn the French language as I have always been interested in the French. My visits to Quebec have been very memorable and I want to stay in contact with these people and this culture. After all some of the most famous and exceptionally talented people in Canada have come from Quebec. I had met a French girl on the train for Winnepeg when I was a teanager and leaving home for the west. She left an impression on me that I will never forget. Thanks again. Crocket.

Your second language would depend on your interest or your environment. It's really good to learn a language that you are going to use for friends, jobs or neighbors. I know a little of Japanese and Spanish, would love to learn French and Mandarin if I have the chance.
