So, the holidays are just around the corner and I'm wondering, what special traditions do you and your family have around the holidays? I know we've all got some so let's here them. What do you look forward to each year at this time?

in my family for thanksgiving we always go to my grandmas and eat so much food and desserts. then we get a bowl and put everyones name in it (because we have such a big family theres no way you can buy everybody something) and we draw names and thats who you buy a gift. its alot of fun ive always gone to my grandmas on thanksgiving and christmas.

We also do the gift exchange idea. ITs a must with a large family.

Hi ThirdMillion. Our family likes to have breakfast on Christmas morning. My kids are all grown and out of the house so I fix the breakfast and they all come over. When we open our gifts, we take turns and everyone waits until the person opens their gift and then the next person opens theirs and so on. That way, it lasts longer and we can all see what the others got. For Thanksgiving, I have the meal at my house and I have the kids and their spouses bring something. We used to always go to the mall the day after Thanksgiving really early and stand in line but that's not as much fun anymore. Guess I'm getting old LOL Take care and have a good lotting day.

That sounds fun. I really like that you take time to make it all about family. Thats what the holidays are all about. I also love the day after Thanksgiving sales! :)

i have done a good part of my shopping, so i am happy about that. i have even started wrapping some presents already. oh and i have made a mess of gift tags too (hopefully i will be able to sell some!)
but what i really love about christmas is the christmas lights and the carols, so we drive around the city during the holidays and make sure we sing carols at church. also, my daughters love the tree calender that i have for them. it is a flat tree with pockets for each day in dec and they get candy, presents and encouraging notes through the month of dec.

Sounds great. I love the idea of the tree calendar. I might have to try that around here. Thanks for the comment.

here in the Philippines the holiday the most people look forward to is the Christmas holidays. We have no special traditions on Christmas except the exchange of gifts and the party. Reunion of families most often during December.

My family just does the regular traditional American things, we get the tree shortly after Thanksgiving, we put the presents out a few days beforehand to raise excitement, and then we open them in the morning before we start our all day feast. But this year I am not looking forward to being with my family for Christmas, because for one thing I will actually not be with my family, I won't even be in the country. I have decided to go to Sweden and stay with my boyfriend's family instead, I think it will be nice to experience a Swedish Christmas and get to know his family. I also miss him a lot so it will be great to spend the cold times being warm with him, I am very excited. I will be there a month, so I will have a lot of time to see things while I am there, my boyfriend and I will also stay in Barcelona, Spain for a few days, so that will be really nice, I will be able to practice my Spanish . This year will definitely not be my regular kind of Christmas, if I am lucky it will become a tradition to take month long vacations at this time of the year hehe. Happy mylotting and have a great night or day!
