Amazon's Kindle

Oprah had this on her show today as one of her new favorite things. I love to read and this would be so awesome. The Kindle is Amazon's wireless device where you can buy and have books delivered directly to the Kindle. It's a neat device but the price right now is $359. That's kind of pricey in my opinion, but it may be well worth it. I love the fact that when I'm traveling, there is no need to lug around books in my carry on or purse. Amazon offers more than 185,000 books that can be downloaded in the Kindle. I think it's really neat and hopefully, one day, I'll be able to afford it.

I missed the Oprah show with this on it however I would love to have one. I just now submitted a post on this as well. I have never seen one in real but have been hearing great things about them. However they are still very expensive & I cannot afford one at that price.

I'm so excited about the Kindle! I don't have one yet but plan to save up to buy one! I love reading and think this would be great. I hope it really does read as well as it is supposed to. It has so many positive reviews, so I feel pretty good about it. I heard that Amazon is making an updated version, so hopefully as newer versions come out, the price will come down. Plus, as other companies start making electronic reading devices, I'm hoping the price will also come down. I know Sony makes one, but I've heard that the quality isn't as good and that it doesn't have the natural feeling like you're reading paper like the Kindle does. I haven't actually seen either one in person though, so it's hard to say.

I think the Kindle is a really amazing device. However, I think it's just way too expensive, especially since you have to tack on the fees for all the books you buy to read on it as well. Not to mention you have to pay for all the newspapers and magazines that you buy as well. I think the price for the machine should be a little less, considering how expensive the books are for the Kindle.

I'm like Marie, old school. but to be realistic, this device might be what I need down the road especially as I get older. I have considered getting it next year since I have to read bifocal and all.

I ordered mine and it's due to be delivered on Wednesday! Can't wait! With the code it's just over $300, so that's about $100 less than when it first came out. Plus, most books are cheaper in the Kindle version and you can get some for free, some for very cheap. I wanted it so I can read in bed holding something lightweight that doesn't fall on my face when I try to hold it or turn the pages, like a heavy book does (or even a small book does - I just can't manage the pages very well). I have a link with the coupon code on my profile page in case anyone has decided they're sold on it after all. I've waited 11 months, since it first came out, to order, so I'm very, very excited!

Hi melondrops (cool name by the way!) Part of me would love a device like the Kindle, as I love gadgets and it looks incredibly practical for long journeys/holidays where you might want lots of books but couldn't carry them all. But I can appreciate why many people wouldn't like it as a replacement for paper books. I myself love seeing my books arranged on my shelves as a feature of my room and wouldn't want to give that up. I guess they both have advantages and disadvantages, but I think there's room for both. I might get a Kindle, or similar, when the price comes down in years to come but till then I'll just have to limit the books I take on holiday, or get a bigger case! Best wishes, Teedyboo :o)

I saw the Oprah show. She was really enthusiastic about this product, She said that you could offset the expensic=ve price of the reader with books bought from Amazon as they were heavily discounted. There is also a discount coupon on Oprah.com that takes $50 off the kindle price for a week only. I used to love to read books. No3m it seems I do not have time, I read lots of newspapers and magazines and I like holding the written word in my hand.

I have seen that device before and it does look neat. But I think I will just stick to reading my ebooks on my laptop and just carry my book with wherever I go like I have been. If they drop the price on it, I will probably get it.

Right now I am still old school..give me a paper pages book to read. I just cannot grab onto the concept of holding onto my book like a blackberry or something. But I hear that people who do use them really like them. Maybe someday I will break down, but right now I have no interest.
