It is the second day of the weekend here and normally I would wake up around 9 - 9:30 AM as this is one of the only days of the week I will actually sleep in late. But I woke up arounbd 6'ish and for the life of me could not get back to sleep. So I have had some coffee and am now tapping away on mylot! To be honest it is hard to find something to occupy my time when I wake up this early. My wife will be sleeping for at least another hour and I have been up for two and a half hours already!
What about you? Do you sometimes wake up way earlier than normal and what do you do to pass the time when this happens?

Hi 23uday. It seems there are a number of people that do exercises first up in the morning. I think I need to get a little more disciplined myself! lol. I mylot at night too but not usually when I first wake up. Only if I wake up way too early! Thanks for the response.

Now I know how come Mr. James is active at this hour!
This thing hardly happens with me. For most of the times I go to bed quite late and I get up around 7ish and then rush to get ready. I start from home at around 8. But there are times when I do get up early in the morning and I chat with my mom still lying down. That’s the best time to get family updates. Nothing like listening to new stuffs with intermittent sips of darjeeling tea!

There are days when I get up much earlier than usual...but I don't wonder what I need to do. I just start my day earlier and get on with my chores. I do a bit of cleaning if it's before 5 AM....but if it's just a little before 5, I start with my cooking for the day. Sometimes, I catch up with my reading.
I always have this problem for a few days when I visit my parents in Africa (due to the time difference). I fall asleep (can't help it even if I try) by around 4 PM and wake up in the middle of the night. Of course, I have no work to do then...so it's usually a book or a movie that I watch.

It's the Diwali weekend and I have 5 days off from work!
And guess what I'm going to be doing? Cleaning, of course...lol!
I just can't function with clutter around...and I also tend to hoard stuff....so I need it all organized.
Hope you have a lovely weekend....oops...your weekend was just over...right?

I had this same problem when I travelled to the USA a couple of months ago and would wake up at 3 AM in the morning. The frustrating thing was that by the time I aqctually adjusted to the time difference it was time for me to return to Cairo! lol. At least you are able to make the most of your time and get chores etc out of the way. Thanks for the response and have a great weekend Sandhya.

Buncha lazy people here, I am tellin ya.
I am up by 6 every morning, most mornings, earlier than that.
I get up, make coffee, have a bath, get dressed, make breakfast, pack a lunch for hubby, put a load of laundry in the washer, work on jewelry if I have a piece started, or start one if I don't, get hubby up, feed him, send him off to work, then come in and check my e-mail, come here, look you up and give you a hard time.

Did that one morning, sort of. Put his undies in a lunch bag and threw lunch in the washing machine. By the time either of us realized it, it was too late. He had cotton for lunch and I had a big mess in the washer.

When I can't go to sleep at night or when I wake up earlier than I need to, I usually sit in the living room doing one of my Sudoku puzzles! They entertain me in the mornings, but they also make me sleepy and I can then fall asleep easily

LOL! That's EXACTLY what happened to me this morning up at 6am EST.. I couldn't go back to sleep, so I stumbled to the kitchen with 1 eye open, made coffee, peed (sorry TMI)sat down in front of the puter and here I am!
I am NOT addicted.

There must be something in the air then dizzblnd? lol. It's not easy making coffee with just the one eye open but we need it to open the other one! It definitely doesn't sound like an addiction either as we are just being productive with our time is all. Thanks for the response and for the descriptive comments about the bathroom too! lol.

I always wake up early, and I don't mind getting up before daylight, but this morning it was 4.10 and I thought that really was a little too early.
I was lying awake, so I decided to listen to the radio through my headphones, and I kept dozing off as I did this. It was 6.30 when I was fully awake and that is quite a normal time for me to get up.
If there is nothing I want to listen to, I put the light on and I can read quite happily until I'm ready to rise and start the day.

4:10 is certainly early paid2write. I thought 6 was bad enough! lol. Being able to reqad and maybe fall back to sleep again would be a wonderful option to have actually but I don't wish to wake up my wife. Maybe I should get one of those book lights or something? Headphoones is an option though so I might just try this if it happens again. Thanks for the response and for the ideas!

Yes, it happens sometimes. My daughter sleeps with us and there are times when she toss and turns or roll over to my side and I'm awaken in the wee hours of the morning. We are not talking about 6-ish. It could be about 4 or 5-ish. After my turn of tossing and turning, I will get up and switch on teh computer. If I have an article in mind, I will start typing right away. If not, mylot is where I wl be too.

This is certainly early Sydney! If it is this early I have a pretty good chance of being able to fall asleep but if it is 6 or later then forget it! I think that those of us that end up early risers like this every now and then need to go and give our computers a great big hug because they definitely seem to be helping us keep our sanity during these times. Thanks for the response.

I almost work at home jinglebee. My apartment is on the ground floor and the offices are on the 5th floor of the same building. You are lucky to be able to dictate your own hours like this. I may live in the same building as the one I work in but I certainly don't have this kind of flexibility! Thanks for the response.

It doesn't happen often but yeah, I've been there before. I remember one incident when I was still studying at my University. I woke up at around 4am and it was the first time ever. I couldn't go back to sleep so what I did I watched FRIENDS so I have something to do. It was fun. I really had a good laugh. ;D

Hi 23uday. You are fortunate to be able to go back to sleep sometimes as once I am awake I'm awake and no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to go back to sleep! The exercise part sounds beneficial too. I wish I had more discipline to do the same! Thanks for the response.

I go through this very often. And i've noticed it's not much with the sleeping late or getting up early. And it's about an hour or so earlier, not enough time to really get back to sleep. So what do i do. Laze around in Bed, maybe some light exercising or just stroll down the kitchen and make myself a hot cup of tea.

Lazing around in bed I am not very good at alok! Light exercising is something I should be doing though so I need to maybe consider this next time this happens. Tea sounds good and I have already had a couple of cups of green tea with a slice of lemon this morning! Thanks for the response.

Hello, James!
I hardly ever wake up sooner than I expect when I am home. But it happens. What you say usually happens to me when I have to go to school but there are no classes. I get there and then I realize that there is only one or two classmates. Then I come back home instead of staying, since there will be no classes at all... And when I get home, what to do? Seven in the morning, and I do not want to sleep nor do anything... Then I just sit in the Computer and start using it. lol
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

Hi munhozmib. This is a rare thing for me actually and I usually have trouble getting up in the morning rather than wake up early. It's a good thing we have computers these days because it seems to be a saving grace for many of us! lol. Thanks for the response.

Yeah yeah, it happened to me b4 ^_^ ANd i was very frustrated about it.. Because i'm someone whom always wake up at 1230pm, so waking up in the morning will make me feel very lethagic.. But i dunno why i manage to wake up once at 8am, and that i cant fall back asleep.. NO matter how i turn and toss, how cooling is the weather, my body system just refuses to budge, so i have no choice but to wake up.. PLus, i just slept at 3am.. lol
SO i wake up, wash up, switch on my pc, and mylot for just 3 discussions b4 my eyelids feel heavy.. lol =D After which i shut down my pc and went to bed again, only to find myself waking up at 2pm.. lol =D Though i can sleep back, but it's a very funny feeling.. haha =D i will not wanna experience that ever again..

That's quite late to be waking up normally kun but you did say you go to bed at 3 AM so fair enough! There is nothing worse than knowing it's so early but the body just refuses to go back to sleep. Thankfully it is not something that happens to me a lot. So here I am with a cup of green tea with a slice of lemon and tapping away on mylot. Make hay while the sun shines right? lol. Thanks for the response.

I do almost everyday and I don't know why! And I don't like it! I'd like to be able to go back to sleep and get some more rest but I just can't so I get up and attempt to start my day which is go online, make my hot drink and just wait the time out. Sometimes, I go out and water the plants all over the house, fresh air always makes me feel better. I am also that kind of person who gets into whatever it was I was already doing that I tend to start getting ready to leave the house in less time than I originally intended to.
I guess it's better than staying up way LATER than normal and have nothing else to do at 3 in the morning except watch infomercials.

Good morning sunshine! (Actually given the time difference it appears that you may not have even gone to bed yet!) Watering plants would be a nice thing to be doing early in the morning but I don't have any! lol. I would steer clear of those infomercials too. Thankfully the ones here are all in Arabic so even if I did get caught up in them I have no chance of buying anything because I don't know what they're saying! Thanks for the response and have a good weekend SaintAnne.

Welcome to mylot Galima! I don't think my brain functions well enough to code a website or play a game first up in the morning so mylotting it is for me too. Reading a newspaper would be nice but there are none in English readily available. Online news is too tricky for the morning brain too I think! lol. Thanks for the response.
