Let's play with our imagination... Right at this very moment I'm typing these words, it's October 25, 2008 - 6:36 PM (PH Time) in my computer clock. The world is facing a lot of problems. Global warming, terrorism, poverty, hunger, AIDS, Malaria, etc. But in spite of these things, a lot of good stuff are also happening such as the growth and advancement of science and technology. In your own personal view, what would the world be like in October 25, 2058? Will there be flying cars? Will iTunes turn into a one and only recording company? Will there ever be an overnight treatment for cancer? Will there ever be a chance for us to live on other planets such as Mars? Will there be an atheist revolution and then all religions will vanish completely? or Will the world even last that long? Do you think a huge comet will come to strike the earth? Do you think it'll end in 2012 as what this site http://www.december212012.com is trying to convey? Or if you're a Christian, do you think all souls will witness Jesus Christ's second coming before 2058? OK, I know there's no such thing as 100% sure when it comes to our future. Anything can happen or at least say the cliche, expect the unexpected. But for now, just act like Nostradamus and share your personal views with us.

because of global warming/climate change, sea and/or ocean water levels will rise dramatically and there will be few countries that will be excluded from the map as if they were not existed. So watch out for that. I hope people around the globe will help stop Global Warming!

If Global Warming is indeed a fact, I don't think the authorities will let it wipe out nations. But they say that the force of nature is stronger than human beings so who knows!?! Let's just hope and pray it won't happen.

i think it will happen to our world. now, there are campaigns started to stop global warming, yet people still keep on using plenty of plastics and clear the forests for their own sake. just see the developement. they need new buildings to keep on growing their incomes. roads are expanding from time to time. there are plenty of activities need to be reduced to reduce global warming. but, no one can help to stop it..just reduce it a little..

gosh I really dont know, I think we will all be rather lazy with computers and robots doing everything for us, most likely disease will be radicated because of new technology, probably there will be some kind of space flight maybe to moon or further, they might even be able to find a colony on the moon

i have to agree with winterose.. we would probably be lazy as all the computers and robots do the work for us.. Imagine a world, where robots go for meetings.. robot chauffeurs.. robot deiveries... etc.. Furthermore, all of us would probably me home all the time.. everything can be ordered online... Working can be online too, with the webcameras and web conferences.. Anything else that required us to use our hands an legs to move around are replaced by robots.. I suppose we will be VERY, EXTREMELY fat then... hmm...

Maybe we will realise that technology has not been as beneficial as we think and there will be areas where we have gone back to valueing people more than things. A dream of mine but not likely to happen. It will be more like the book 1984 where we are spied on from everywhere and no-one has any freedom.

It's an old book by George Orwell. It tells of a future society where every move is watched by Big Brother and there are strict controls on behaviour. I haven't read it for a while but it had a big impact on me when I first read it.

OIC. Well I'm not really a fan of Big Brother but the book sounds interesting. Hope you can provide a title so I can browse for it in the bookstore.

Well, if you had asked even the most dedicated SF fan in 1958 if he thought we'd have computers we could carry around with us, he'd probably laugh in your face, but he might've thought the flying cars were possible. so, as a seasoned SF fan, I'd say that we'd recognize the world, they might be starting real 3-d TV, but I still doubt we'll have flying cars. Religions won't have changed, the weather will be about the same. In fact, most of what we know will still be the same, only the background music will have changed.

You said about the progress of science.I'm emphasizing on this point.Man has created imbalance in nature. This brought havoc in the nature and whole the creation. Science and technology are progressing fast.So I hope man can overcome this havoc.Same way according to your imagination by 50 years men will be able to settle in the mars and so on.

I can't envision the world ending, I think it's still evolving, and will never stop. With more people commumicating with each other, thru sites like MyLot, I hope that in the next 50 years that all people will realize the brotherhood/sisterhood that we all have with each other. Instead of individual countries struggling to develope technology and medical treatments, how much further would we be if the boundaries became less important and there was more spirit of cooperation? What would happen if world leaders called for war, and nobody came?

Before the world is going to be much better, it will be much worst. We are facing more problems than before. Mars? maybe after 80 years or so. Flying cars if we solve energy sources. We are overpopulated and we will have to build stations on Moon way before building anything on Mars. We will discover close planet from Earth with water and similar temperature. NASA will built flying sources for easy fight in about 50 years from now. They have them already only for testing. 2012? we may have some problems, but humanity will survive.

I don't think that I will be on earth in fifty years time. I would be 88 years old. I don't think that I would live up till that age. However I do imagine a world which is quite differen from nowadays. Flying cars? Why not? Everything is possible when you use your vivid imagination. © ronaldinu 2008

Well that's what this discussion is about - using one's imagination. We all agree that even technology is at its peak, we can't be sure of what it will cause in the future. Could it be destruction or improvement?

haha.. In 50 yrs time, i can only see the world becoming more and more worse than now or b4.. Because as long as new technologies keep coming out in the market, and more ple are having good comfortable life, where will they be thinking of protecting mother earth?? lol Just ask around, especially those white collared personnel and those poor ple, when they can be making so much money and the poor cant even feed themselves, why would they be bothered about the world.. No matter what, they only believed in making themselves comfortable at the expense of nature.. So very soon or maybe in 50 yrs time, the world will be back to its natural self, without any technologies.. lol

Well I hope not. Let's not forget that technology somehow changed our lives. A lot of improvements were made especially to the advancement of medicines and entertainment. We can't live fruitfully without these things and the good thing is, technology made it even better. We should be thankful for it.

I see that if the economy keeps going in the direction it is going that we will be going backwards instead of forward so we could be back to the horse and buggy days and having to live off the land and grow our own crops, with no money I dont see the research of overnight Cancer treatments, living on other planets, flying cars and ect. being completed. Also I will be married for 55 years on the 25th of Oct.2058.You have a great evening.

Anything could happen. crazydaisy

There might not be gas just our own and they use something all together different to travel with to other planets ...so nasa wont be worry about anything like that. They will be more interst in getting up to the other planets and back o.k. crazydaisy.

lol i will join ur imagination game now..let's see, 2008 to 2058 is 50years more who knows what will happen lol it could be anything u mentioned above.. i will answer some of ur Qs: - i dont think that year all religions will vanish completely, coz there must be some people who always hold on to their belief n take good care of their religion.. - it will end in 2012? i will say let the God decide it for us, we're just a human we can predict anything with science, high technology, and knowledges. but still God decide the final decision bout when will it be the end of the world.. - i'm not a Christian=P

Well Christ was supposed to come for the new millenium according to some. Didn't happen. We were also supposed to have electric and flying cars by now. Not here. Some also thought the world would end in 2000. Still here. I really hope that technology and better/natural ways of running electricity, cars, etc will come in the next 10 years. We have the technology, we just need to use it instead of the things that are bad for us. I don't look for world end in the next 50 years... but I suppose, if we get worse instead of better that would be possible. I also believe we should absolutely be exploring and building colonies, new places to live other than our planet. But, of course, the sun will only burn so long too....... I do, however, see a real cure for cancer and other diseases in the next 10 years, IF the money and research allow.

We can't be sure of anything when it comes to the future. All things that you've mentioned such as Christ's second coming, flying cars, and the end of the world were just assumed by ordinary human beings. Did you know that Nostradamus himself predicted the exact date of the end of the world!?! Unfortunately, it didn't happened at all.

Hi ronreyes, Yes I think there will be flying cars, I have dreamt about it when I was a little child, and all the prisoners will be sent away to another planet so they would not be danger to all and we would able to go about on our own without the fear of being harmed. Tamara

The only thing I know for sure is I will not be there. If humans can keep from killing each other off, I think many things will change. food for one thing will be less, the earth is going to go through a global warming with or without our help, this will cause the relocations of many coastal cities. In the US this will be a very big deal. I really wish i could be a fly on the wall so to speak to see what happens.

i see the world in 50 years being very different. i see there being flying cars i see there being a whole complete other highway in the sky. i think there is going to be other cities and states like in outer space because the world is going to get overpopulated. i think there going to have like cell phone implanted into like microchips in your brain or something so you never have to hold a phone. some very crazy stuff.

True! Well it's now happening, what more it would be like in 50 years!?! Personally, I'm glad that technology is at its peak. I mean this is probably the greatest achievement of mankind. It only proves that we're improving although there are still some negative effects like what you've said. We will all rely on technology and not with our physical capabilities, and the result are pigs. LOL
