How important are clothes to you?

I love nice clothes. I'm a very tall woman and have to have tall women clothes. But they are so expensive. I shop lots in order to find something that fits that is in my price range. Therefore, I look for sales and bargains every where. I may pass up something and then come back to see if the store puts it on sale. So I do without lots, believe me! I have to usually get desperate to buy anything anymore, considering the looks of clothes now days. I want it to look good on me, feel good, and also be affordable! Sarah Palin has been in the news lots lately because of the clothes bought for her by the RNC. But it tickled me to hear her say that her favorite places to buy clothes for her and her family was a Consignment shop and The Shoe Fly in Alaska. Someone interviewed the owner of the Consignment shop and she said it is true that the Palin's do shop there often. She is my kind of shopper! She looks for good clothes, yet also shops for the bargains!

clothing is one of the basic needs of man. it is very important because you will get caught by the authority or be mistaken as a foolish person if you do not wear any clothes. well, i also love shopping for clothes. i like trying clothes out and checking if it really fits. i am not really after those signatured clothes. actually, i also look for those bargain and "on-sale" items. as long as it looks good on me, it doesn't matter if it is cheap. anyway, not everyone will ask you how much did those you are wearing cost you. the quality of the cloth itself and the prints, if any, are also important so it will not look so cheap. other signatured items don't look really good. you just pay for the "name" attached on it.

Because I am long waisted, some of my things need to be for talls. Like bathing suits. I bought nice ones a few years back at Sears. I try not to pay full price for anything either. I saw a really cute pair of pants in a new shipment at Wal Mart, and finally calmed myself down about them, decided to wait. I used the tactic of figuring out how many hours I would have to work to pay for them. It sure helped.

GardenGerty, you sound like me when I shop. I don't count the hours to pay for it. But I have been known to shop all day, pick up stuff, take it around the store, and then argue with myself and take it and hang it back up. I figure, if I have that much time to shop, I probably don't need it in the first place. I've been many times looking for something and come home empty handed. I do know how to NOT buy, believe me.

I like nice clothes also, but I tend to put my kids before me. I do have some nice clothes, but may have to wait till I get them grown before I can really buy me clothes. I usually wear my mom's hand me downs.

Kitten, I always did that when my kids were home. Now I buy more for my grandkids and my daughter than I do myself. I could never wear hand me downs - I'm WAY taller than my Mother.

My aunt was a very tall woman, and learned to sew beautifully. She made lots of things for herself and for her daughter, who was also very tall. Lucky me, I was recipient of many hand me downs. I mostly want to be comfortable, which is hard right now, as I am kind of overweight. I find that I am more conservative at my age, and really want something quality when I buy.

I was taught to sew by my Mother. We both made custom draperies, and we also sewed for ourselves. But I just haven't wanted to make clothes for a long time. I had rather buy them. But I have made some very nice things, including long coats for myself and also jackets for my husband. Now, I'd rather buy than go through the hassle of finding a pattern, the material and getting it made.

They are very important to me, in fact I could not live without them. otehrwise I would be naked all the time which is not very gentelmanly like. I think that it is bad that she likes to shop at thrift stores, for some people that is ok but if she is going to be vice president I think she saves too much money. What if she tries to pass some law tat we are not aloud to spend so much money on our clothes, I would vote for a muntany.

She shops at Consignment shops. Consignment shops and thrift stores are completely different. Clothes in consignment shops are high-class clothes brought in by people who can afford them. They sell them for whatever the owner of the shop can get and the owner gets a percentage of the amount they sell them for. Clothes coming from consignment shops are usually just like new. I have a friend in Missouri that does most of her shopping in consignment shops there and has beautiful clothes. If you pay attention to Sarah Palin's clothes, most of them are hers that she bought there, and they look just as nice as those that the woman bought for her at Neiman Marcus or Fifth Avenue (or wherever she got them). I think anyone who can afford better clothes has the right to buy them or if they want to shop at Consignment shops, great for them. If I had any near me and they carried tall clothes, I'd be shopping there, too.

Well, I'm known for my eclectic style. It's been called "Bohemian Channel". I have no idea why. I don't wear flouncy stuff at all. It's just not me. Clothing is fairly important to me. I would be lying to say otherwise. I feel more confident and capable in certain clothes. In other clothing I feel alluring. And so forth. I am not tall. I am not short. I'm average height. This makes finding clothing difficult because that is the first sizing that runs out. Then to top it off I have an hourglass figure. No, I'm not heavy or overweight. I'm just built that way. So I find most clothing fits women that don't have a waist that curves in or larger bust sizes, hips, etc. I have to hit other areas to mix and match my items.

I know what you mean having problems finding things that fit. I've always had a smaller waist for my hip size and a smaller bust line. I like it when the outfits are inner-changeable. You can buy a skirt/pants in one size and a top in another. But then, again, if the pants are not by a company that makes for tall only, the waist is always way too large! I hate that, too. I have found some slacks, though, that fit in the waist and I bought several pairs. I hate flouncy clothes, too. I'm more for the tailored fits. I don't mind some decoration being on a jacket or blouse, but I don't go for the new skirts/dresses that have pleats around the bottom, or something like that. Just isn't attractive to me at all.

You have to be very slender to pull those clothes off. I once could say I was in that category but not any longer. But I wouldn't have worn them even then. But I do have a granddaughter who could wear almost anything and look good!

I completely agree! I often see women in flouncy clothing and just cringe because they go from being healthy looking to chubby. Flouncy clothing is tough to wear and very few body types can wear it.

I love clothes too and believe me, I am a tall woman also (5'10). I get pants where ever I can find them and of course, when they are on sale. I live in the Northeast where clothes tend to be more expensive, if you ask me. I am always told to go to the Village in NY, where clothes are plentiful for taller women. But woman, I cannot afford it either! My advice, have patience for shopping. Try ordering from books such as Newport News or Speigel where they tend to have longer lengths for pants. Also try bargain centers, like Marshalls, Annie Sez, etc because you may very well find some longer jeans or pants. Now if you are a plus size woman, you should not have much of a problem because those stores already exist. But I personally am a smaller woman with curves, but not plus size, so I know it can be challening. Maybe we should start a petition or something for manufacturers to recognize that there are more tall women out here that needs affordable clothing! (That would be funny!)

I am 5' 11" and a normal size - not a plus woman. I have found tall slacks at Penney's. They used to sell Counterparts which was not stretchable and came in several colors, but they quit having those pants. I really miss them. They have had 2 different kinds of stretch slacks, and now there is one. But I wear hose, so they look very nice. There is no way I could afford to go to a Tall shop anymore, now that I am not working. I did buy all my clothes at a downtown Tall shop when I was working. But things have gotten so high, that's impossible anymore. You almost have to be rich. I don't like ordering from magazines unless they have the same name brands I buy. You never know what you are going to get. Either the hips are too tight, or the waist is way too big. In fact, most you find in the stores that aren't tall are the same way. That's why I like Penney's. I have also bought Tall suits at Penney's, but, as far as I've seen lately, they no longer have those. Thank goodness I have a solid black one and a black pinstripe. I just wish we tall girls could find colored slacks. I have grey, black, and cream. I want some brown slacks! As for jeans, I haven't worn them since breaking my hip 7 years ago. They seem to pull on my hip and that doesn't work.
