Why dog movies manage to make me cry?

I have just seen a dog movie that managed to make me cry. It's a story about dogs coming from outer space and their superior Great Dane tells them they must leave their owners in order to return to the planet. Well it might be a stupid story but it made me realise how much I miss my dog. He was my companion, and I confided in him in bad times. I realise that I do miss him badly. I had to go out of the room not to let others know that there are tears in my eyes.
What type of movies make you cry?

I think it is because to people dogs are also people and not just an animal, they are always there for you when you need someone no matter what and I think that is why we human always feel their pain too and if something sad happens to them then we feel sad too and we cry for them.

I cry at just about any animal movie- it's hard not to if you're an animal lover. I think one that got me the most was Eight Below. I can't handle it when something happens to the animals in the movie. Another one that got me was Homeward Bound. I cry every time at the end of that movie when the animals all make it home safely. That movie made me get my own himalayan cat that looked a lot like Sassy. There are quite a few other movies that make me cry as well- one that gets me all the time is The Notebook. What a tearjerker!

seriously. homeward bound is a modern re-make of an old film called The Incredible Journey. the animals didn't talk, it was just narrated, and it was amazing.
absolutely 100% guarunteed tears as old Bodger comes stumbling over the hill and running home as best he can.
Homeward Bound has NOTHING on the original. it just seems really mawkish and trying too hard compared to that.

I have never seen the movie the Incredible Journey but I sure would like to. At least I would know to have my kleenex box with me while I watch it!

I am sorry for your loss it is never easy losing a loved one like that even if it was a pet. Sometimes one can be closer to a pet then a human. Their are a few movies that make me teary eyed, especially ones about older people it reminds me of my grandparents or movies about abuse.

Real men cry so you don't have to leave the room. I am sorry to hear about your dog. When you are ready and if you want to, I hope you can get another dog.It isn't films that make me cry, it's mushy comericals, Like the restaurant commerical where the highschool coach just retired and his team surprised him with a plaque that was hanging in the restaurant. There were others but I can't remeber them now. It has been a long , long time since I have cried over a commerical. With movies , I prefer a good sad, ending to a tacked on happy one.

First of all, I can see you are a very sympathy person. You have a kind heart. And you shall also like dogs. Animals movies are always very moving and therefore we will shed tears for it. Especially with the sad ending, I can't help crying. I cry for any moving parts and I don't pay attention to which kind of the movie it is.

Oh gosh there are a lot of movies that make me cry. I don't really have a certain kind that makes me cry though. Lately the kind of movies that make me cry are movies about September 11th.

If I even hear a movie I know is a dog or cat or any kind of pet in it that is lost or something tragic happens to them (Milo and Otis comes to mind) I start to freak out and want to hug my dogs and cat. I will never watch these movies because they do tear me up inside. I cannot get over the idea of an animal being lost and scared. I used to never admit this to anyone, but I just cannot watch those movies.

I'm the same as you with ANY animal story especially if it has a sad ending. I'm so sorry that you lost your dog. What was the name of the movie? I've never heard of that one before.

When I was younger, I cried whenever I saw "Lassie" on TV, particularly when he got lost or was in danger. Also, the last dog movie I saw was "Eight Below." I cried for 2 hours! It's about 8 Huskies that were left behind during a terrible storm, and the trainer/owner finally returned to get them. It's a must see. Of course, though, I could never watch it again because I cried so hard.

Pets become like children to human beings. Especially dogs. I like dogs not cats.

That is so sad that you could not let others see you cry. I used to be like that but now I do not care any more. That movie would make me cry as well, the thought of all those poor dogs having to leave their humans is sad. I love our baby so much and he gets so jealous at the tiniest suggestion that we might have another animal.
Movies that are about sadness make me cry as long as they are not silly. I can get quite emotional now. Before I realized that crying is not a weakness that it is ok to cry and you can let other see you and not feel vulnerable. Now I do not care and I know that no matter what others think I am strong and not vulnerable but I can still cry in public.

Movies that center around animals are most apt to make me cry too. The memories of my previous animal friends and family are so strong, and I miss them all so much too. Isn't it a same that our pets can't live as long as we do? There is such a purity in our relationships with our pets, it's all love and friendship. These relationships are not marred by arguments, attitudes, or petty jealousies. What's not to love? And everything to miss when they're gone. If there's a heaven, I hope they are all there waiting for me (if) I get there.
