interesting topic. Perhaps predicting where the world is heading can be helped by mentioning major and minor causes of the problem.
It is claimed that the major causes of the financial crisis (from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7992942.stm) are rapacious greed, fiscal malfeasance and corporate arrogance. Which to my opinion means there too many of the "few privileged people in financial institutions" "stealing" ordinary peoples' money. Also, corporations seem unable to deliver the goods and services that customers deserve.
To add to the above "top-three" it seems also that Mother Earth is no longer able to tolerate abuses in emissions leading to reduction in opportunities and general increase in consumer prices.
It's almost as if innovations in technology even also aggravated the problem e.g. less jobs i.e. humans replaced by machines and computers (depreciated human capital).
Since there's no simple answer, I'd give one thought: world economy will get better if more people will have jobs; to create more jobs, (no matter how odd it sounds) we need new ideas ...
Any comments?

If you are an American, down the drain. If you are a Russian, to Siberia. If you are from China or India, things can't get any worse, so look up towards the sky. If you are from the EU, then watch your feet.
