I never met anyone who was afraid of cats, although I used to know a young man who disliked them because he was unusually concerned with germs. I'm not a big fan of spreading germs around either, but I love cats and consider them quite clean in general. Of course there are always exceptions...
I read the Napolean Hill quote on your profile and smiled because I go around quoting him a lot too, and recommending one of his books: Think and Grow Rich.

It is simply a phobia - an irrational fear. Just like people who are terrified of bugs, dogs, heights, open places, snakes, flying, etc.
It has nothing to do with the cat itself; it is just a short circuit in the brain that creates a panic/fear response. I am sure there is probably something that scares you too.
These poor people will never be able to enjoy a cat sitting on their lap purring like the rest of us.

I don't know why...
Some people are just precious and cannot handle a little scratch.
Dogs are far more dangerous than cats. They can badly maul you or even kill you.
A cat won't attack you unless you tease him...
Maybe that is why...
Most people like treating their pets like a doll.
Cats won't go for that non-sense...
They are free spirit and don't take orders from humans too kindly.
And humans are not happy unless they can manipulate others.

I love both cats and dogs. I have had both as pets. Each on their own. Also together at the same time. The last 2 cats I had were black. So some of it may stem from superstition. The mother in law of my best friend wouldn't come into my home because of my black cat. Fear of Cats: Ailurophobia was suffered by some pretty famous people.

The most common cause of cat phobia is having a frightening experience in early childhood that involves a cat, usually being bitten or scratched.

I don't know if I would say I have a fear of cats but as far as preferences go, I am more of a dog lover. Several people I know have cats and they do not seem and personable and affectionate as dogs, but that could simply be because I have never owned a cat so I do not see that side of them. I want to like cats but I just find the cats I have come across have this way about them that i do not trust or feel comfortable with.
