I will admit it..I hate to fly.. I love to travel but get so anxious before a long flight. I know that it is actually safer to fly than say drive a car, yet it still makes me nervous. I have found that if I have a glass of wine before I get on my plane it usually calms me a bit and I can enjoy the flight. I think my fear started a few years ago when our plane hit some very strong turbulance.. The plane was bouncing all over the place and I thought we might crash!! I won't allow my fear from stopping me from traveling. But I do wish I enjoyed it more.. Are you afraid to fly and what do you do to prepare for it?

It is a shame that you hate to fly but it is excellent that you haven't given up doing so. I remember flying from London to Sfax via Tunis and the flight had much turbulence. I split my drink and was sick. Happily I can say no other flight has been that bad that I have been on. I used to suffer terrible ear pain before landing so I didn't look forward to flying. I would feel stressed before a flight because I remembered the ear pain. Then my friend gave me a pair of ear planes and I flew to Kenya with no ear pain. Wow! On the homeward flight I saw the pyramids from the plane window. Most of all I enjoy flying in a small plane that travels low like the one I flew on in the Maldives. I saw the reef and islands from the plane window. I am very keen on traveling I fly on a plane and put up with lack of comfort for however many hours. I read a travel magazine and think about the delight I will have when I reach my destination. I hope that you get more confidence on smooth flights and begin to enjoy flying. Good luck.

I'm not afraid of flying. I love flying. You are safer on a plane than in a car. Once in awhile if there are some noises or bumps on the plane I think about it, but there are not too many most of the time, so it doesnt bother me alot.

I am glad that you do not allow your fear to stop you from flying. This type of fear often can paralyze people preventing them from enjoying travel. I have no fear at all of flying. I love being in an airplane. Even taking off and landing does not bother me. The longer the flight the more relaxed I become. I only wish I could afford to travel more often.

I'm sorry that you feel that way but glad that it doesn't stop you from traveling! I haven't experienced strong turbulence or anything life threatening, but before I take off, I have to tell everyone to take care and say proper good byes or see you laters I think. Other than that I don't really have a fear of it but I think next time I go, I will bring music because of how paranoid the buzzing sound gets to me. I plan to go to Japan next spring break actually, and its further than anywhere I've been before (in the US) so I have to be really prepared to endure the flight... thanks for the topic.

I hate flying, but I'm not afraid to fly. I can't stand getting up so early, all the lines, and all of the sitting around and waiting. I do not find it to be an enjoyable experience.

In 2006 I flew in a plane for the very first time.I was going to England for a holiday.I sat by the window and watched intently and I was very amused at how things got smaller the higher we got.I thought that the roads looked like they were pencil lines. Not to mention the traffic which went from looking like toys to little dots. I just could'nt get enough of it and was sorry when we were at the highest altitude and I was not able to see any more.No I am definitely not afraid to fly, and I can do it at a moments notice.!!!!LOL!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that you hate flying! I just love flying and it's really an enjoyable experience. The best part that I like about flying is the taking off and the landing. I just love experiencing the rush of adrenalin as the plane slowly taxies across the tarmac and then suddenly the speed picks up and then you are pulled into your chair as though being drawn by a magnet! Yes I admit, I see those plane crashes on the news and that does make me think, is it safe to fly? Well, flying is absolutely safe. I think that the chance of you being involved in a plane crash is one in a million, I'm sure I heard that somewhere. I like the attention that I receive from the stewardesses! I love that nice plane food, the inhouse entertainment, it almost makes the flight so enjoyable. The whole thing of checking in and remaining at the airport, it's all so glamourous! I wish that I could fly on a regular basis but let's just say my finances aren't up to scratch so this has become almost impossible. There's an airline that I have not experienced and I would just love to experience it, Cathay Pacific! Anyway, I hope that your mood improves as regards flying, you really are safe. There's no better way to travel. Andrew
