Winter darkness

Dark dank days.
No suns rays.
Just winters haze
Meets our gaze.
We've just turned the clocks back so it's dark early now, sometimes it seems it's dark all day.
The poem at the top describes how winter days make me feel sometimes.
Do you feel down in winter? Do the dark days trigger dark moods? Or do you enjoy it?

I think the only plus point is the fact that we got an extra hour in bed, although for most I am sure that hour is probably more appreciated on a working day rather than a Sunday when most can lie in anyhow! But why do they still mess with the clocks? It is so outdated and mainly because of the war, but why continue to do it nowadays? Sorry to digress, coming home from the gym tonight hit me when I had to turn my lights on on the car and it seemed strange working out at the gym when it was pitch black outside! I suffer from SAD as well and dread it coming on, already I feel sluggish and down and it's a slippery slope to March isn't it!

I don't know why we still do it. When I was at school they experimented with leaving the clocks alone one year and most people liked it better so the government of the time decided it hadn't worked, apparently the farmers didn't like it. We both need to start looking for the beauty and positives of winter.

Speaking as an ex dairy farmer,(the first 30+ years of my life) I have to admit we never, ever, liked the time change idea. Cows need to be relieved of their milk twice a day, and at the same time of the day, each and every day. The time change throws them off, so we'd have to get up for milking chores at the same time...no matter what the clock said. To change and jump an hour makes the cows hold in their milk, and that in itself leads to problems in the cow, and in the milk itself. Our other farm animals would get thrown off by the time change too, but not as much as the milking cows. We always found the time change to be a pain in the butt lol.

Strange, that just proves the politicians make things up as they go along. I often wondered how the cows knew the clock had changed, thanks for clearing that up.

For the most part, I enjoy winter, but I'll have to admit those dark & dreary days sometimes just get to a person. I like sunshine, so on the days the sun is shining brightly I like it. Days that are dark do bring on dark moods sometimes, especially when there's many days of them in a row. Maybe the darker days bring out the primitive feelings of despair, just like it surely did to the cavemen. I do think my mood is more 'up' on days when the sun is shining. I try to make those darker days enjoyable by keeping busy and warm :-)

I rather enjoy winters, but then again, south african winters are like brittish summers. It was zero degrees for about 5 nights. The average day temperature was 18degrees celsius. With sunshine. We have summer now. The average day temperature is 3o degrees. I actually love cold gloomy days. I do my best writing when its like that. Take care. How do you feel about it?

One of the main reasons I hate winter is the continual darkness. You wake up to go to work and it's pitch black. You leave work to home, and it's pitch black again. The days are so short - there's just not enough sunlight. It really affects your mood, and can make you feel really depressed and restless. The weekends during the day are pretty much the only chance I get to see sunlight.
When our time change used to be in October, we at least got a little extra sunlight in the morning. But now that the US has changed their time shift - our country has followed. The time shift is so much later now, that the days are a lot shorter and we don't actually get anymore sunlight.
How many more days until spring?

This reminds me of something! I like the winter snow in my hometown though I have had few chances to watch the snowflakes dancing in the air since I left the city for my study! I recall when I was yougner I made a snowman with a big nose! With my neighbour's company, we would skate until the setting sun! In the world of ice and snow, it was cold but fun!
