Something All Women Should Care About

Ladies, we all know that no matter how much we've tried to make changes, we still live in a man's world, even in the United States.
It was evidenent when - finally - medical research told us that men and women suffer heart attacks and strokes differently than men. And when the drug companies - finally - started testing both men and women for new drugs and when they realized that a 100 pound woman should not be taking the same level of drugs as a 200 pound man.
Now, this isn't as serious as medical issues. But I had one of those "ah-ha" moments as I stood at the McCain/Palin rally on Wednesday night. Don't worry, I'm not going to get all fired up about my favorite duo. That's not what this is about.
First, let's talk about Hiliary. I don't know about you, but every time I heard her on TV at a rally or anywhere she had to raise her voice, she sounded like a cranky, old cow. Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm going somewhere good with this.
I have to admit that my negative feelings about Hilary made me think that was her real shouting voice. In fact, that irritating - like chalk on a chalkboard - feeling I got when I heard her shouting might have contributed to the negative feelings I had about her. Listening to her on TV, unless it was in a one-on-one quiet interview hurt my ears.
Enter Governor Palin. And guess what! As much as I love her - AND I DO!!! - her voice when she's heard shouting on TV is also irritating. Someone (a Democrat, of course) said her shouting voice was moose-like, and while I don't know what kind of sounds a moose makes, I understood the comparison.
Well, guess what, ladies. At the rally that my hubby and I attended, Sarah Palin had a sweet voice. Sure it was strong and confident, but it was NOT irritating or moose-like at all, even when she was shouting.
I got to thinking about that. And I realized that when I've heard TV personalities - like the morning news women - raising their voices outside the studios sometimes, they have also sounded like cranky, old cows or moose. (Is that moose or mooses?)
And that's when I realized that, perhaps, Hiliary had the same thing happen to her. Perhaps she didn't really have an old lady type raspy shouting voice at all.
If Palin's voice is something that irritates you, I hope you'll believe me when I say that it's not her voice, but......
it must be the crazy distortion that TV recordings do to women's voices when they're loud.
I don't know about you, but I think we all need to be telling the stupid news media that we're tired of women sounding like they're wild animals or farm animals when their voices are raised. It's about time they figure out how to NOT distort women's voices. You know they don't have the same problem with men's voices.
In the back of my memory, I can almost hear Geraldine Ferraro's voice also sounding like a wounded animal when she shouted as she campaigned for VP years ago.
It's not fair! Women, let's tell the networks it's time that they figured out how to make our voices sound REAL just like the men's voices. If we sound like a cow when we're speaking softly, well...there's nothing they can do about that. But if we sound angelic, and the TV distortion makes us sound like a moose...that's doggone unfair.
Are you with me on this one?
