i was playing on the floor with my dog, rough housing and she was growling and she bit me. it didn't really hurt and she wasn't doing it to be mean but it did leave a mark. i never really thought about why dogs bite but now that i think about it its because thats there weapon they cant push you around like you do when your playing with them so they have to use there mouth.

I suggest you'd better see the doctor.
I once was bitten by my neighbour's dog. It didn't really hurt but I still had injections. From then on, I never raise dog. Every time I see dog, especially it growls at me, my legs start trembling. What's more, i would be frightened to cry. Childish, huh?

Dogs are pack animals, and to them you are the alpha male - the leader of the pack. When you play rough with them, besides playing, you are teaching a life lesson of self defense. I'm sure your dog doesn't really want to hurt you, but sometimes they do get carried away with the role playing. With my dog Tukay, I've established a safe word. When we are playing, if I say OUCH! she stops immediately. It took a while to train her for this, I did it with the reward system. When she stopped, she got a kibble.

I agree with you. Biting is their defense mechanism, we can't blame them solely because that's the only thing they know to defend themselves.
Make sure to take your anti-rabbies vaccine in case your dog does not have one or just a shot of anti tetanus for the wound.

Sometimes dogs get a little carried away and the bite may have been unintentional. In that case, it is probably better to find another way to play, such as a pull toy or a retrieval game where your hand is well away from his mouth. Even if the bite was intentional, your dog was simply telling you to back off. He may have not liked the way you were playing or something that you were doing. Dogs will often snap like that when they don't like how they are being treated. If he had wanted to bite you hard enough to draw blood, he would have. That was not his intention. However, if a dog ever bites you hard enough to draw blood, you need to see a doctor right away. Contrary to popular belief, dogs do not have clean mouths and infection can result.
