I went to New Zealand when I was 30 years old. I spent my first five weeks in Northland then I flew down to Christchurch. I explored the Southern Island then got a ferry from Picton to Wellington. I then went to Napier and was lucky enough to experience the art deco weekend. Next I went to Rotorua and saw thermal action. Then I went to Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove before having my last few days in Auckland.
I climbed a mountain and saw stunning views. It was superb to go on long distance walks. I saw superb coastal scenery on the Abel Tasman Walk and then I did the more demanding Queen Charlotte walkway. On Christmas Day in the Bay of Islands I went swimming with wild dolphins. I was doing some some sand boarding and then I saw a fairy penguin. On the South Island I saw yellow eyed penguins.
New Zealand is so friendly and very scenic. It is safe and interesting destination. It can be cheap to stay in backpacker hostels and camp in a tent. Some trains has stunning routes like of mountains between Christchurch and Greymouth. New Zealand is my third favorite country after Samoa my first and Australia my second.

Beautiful country. Lots of mountains and forests... sheep grazing land, and vineyards. I've toured most of North Island, from Auckland South, on the East side. It is a lot like my home state, Oregon. The people are great, too.
