It's very common that Listening to the music or readio while driving these days . I also often do that . But my father always warn me about that and say It will distract your attention , which is dangerous while driving . Yet I don't think it's a big deal . on the contrary I think it will greatly decline the accident rate , especially during a long , dull journey , which could kill boring time and help driver concentrate his attentino on the road . However my father disagree with me , and he is very expericed driver whthout accident record for more than twenty years . what should I do ? what do you think this matter ?

i think listening to music makes me 'more calm' instead of distracting me. i love listening to music and singing along to my favourite tunes. that helps me keep my mind off the traffic jam and all the crazy drivers on the road!

I'd have to agree with your father. The problem with listening to music is that you won't hear the car that almost hits you that you don't see. I can't tell you how many times my hearing has saved me from getting hit by a crazy nutcase on the freeway. If you're listening to music, you're not going to hear these things.
I have noticed though that listening to audiobooks doesn't interfere with the road noises for me. Because there are pauses between the words rather than a steady stream of music, it works much better. So if I'm driving over an hour somewhere I'll often listen to an audiobook, but almost never to music.

sounds reasonable, you'd better be a conservative when talking about safety.

No, it doesn't. Music helps to fill the silence when I'm driving, so in a way it helps me relax while driving. What's really distracting is when my cell phone starts to ring or when the passengers are so noisy and loud. If for example, my mom is on the passenger's seat and she keeps talking about stuff, then I get distracted. But music, as well as the dj talking, should be fine. :)

I always listen to music when I'm driving. Unless I don't know where I'm going, and therefore I need to pay full attention to what I'm doing. If I know where I'm going and how to get there, then music helps to pass the time. A long trip goes by fast! :)

I know what you mean listening to music while driving is very common nowadays and I think it is a very good idea, because music adds color to peoples lives, and it makes things less dull, and it can make car rides go by faster than just staring at the road unless you are the type that talks to yourself or have someone with you to talk to,and whenever me and my fiance go out somewhere we always have the radio on,and it is always on one of our local country stations, and I have learned that I can not drive without the radio on,because silence bothers me,and I am more focused on the road with the radio on,because without the radio on I am more prone to let my mind wonder and not concentrate on where I am going.

most of the time no. and the reason being that you have to concentrate on the road with your eyes and the body movements take charge of the driving.and i a, good at that but i never had an issue and maybe because i keep the volume low and then it is fun to listen to music in traffic jams and they happen quite often in our city.
you always need to be aware of what is happening around you while driving and for it use your senses and always try to keep the volume low.
good luck
