Laziness is the mother of invention - I read this statement in a magazine and wonder how it possible. I heard that 'Necessity is the mother of invention'. What is your opinion on this statement? Is it possible? Please share your ideas in this regard.

that is interesting and seems to be true. maybe it is that we make inventions when we feel that we are wasting time on a task and that we should make a device that should do it for us when we just relax and chill.
it is true for computer, it was invented to solve the problems that never existed but now have to admit that computing is not for solving problems but for a living.
good luck

I think the old saying really holds that necessity is the mother of invention. When you are in need your mind tries to be creative to meet your needs. If for example you are in dire need of money you try to solve that out by searching for jobs, seeing how you make an extra buck. © ronaldinu 2008

Those who tend to be lazy and have some research orietned mind will think of some devices or instruments, which may help them in their laziness meaning thereby that once they make some devices which can handle some tasks, then they can go for rest easily. So basically people are lazy and they keep on researching that how the tasks should be completed, without they putting in much labour, take the example of washing machine or a mixer grinder, if you are without these things, you will have to manually do all the work.

hi
I guess both the statements are correct but the 1st one is applicable to very few people, whereas 2nd is seems more rational.
A highly talented person who is absent from physical works ( we call it laziness) but highly involved in mental works can only contribute to the process of invention. truely, in my life I haven't met any such persons.

I feel necessity is the mother of invention but history proves that lazy people or people who were wasting their time under an apple tree had made the biggest discoveries or inventions of time!!
So letssay needy people who are also lazy are the great inventors!
Happy Diwali and have a nice day!

No doubt, it might have been the invention of some International organization of the indolents.Had Newton been lazy how could have he invented the gravitation.Had the Isro people lazy then how could have we sent a satellite to moon.Had the inventors of mylot been lazy how could have it been possible for us to post discussions. And finally had the mylotters been lazy how could have we met. Thanks for the post

I think the laziness statement is rediculous. Necessity is correct. If you are lazy nothing gets accomplished where if there is necessity you are alot more apt to find a invention that works. Yes, necessity makes it happen.

First I disagree with you, laziness will let you do nothing, you can not even think and wait for things to be done. Probably you would have talked of poverty as the mother of invention the I would have agreed. Lazy people are just clueless how do you expect them to be the mother of invention, what can they invent.

Hi Oderog, I hope you are not angry on me. There is no question of disagreement because I never said that 'laziness is the mother of invention'. I said that I read it in a magazine and I also wonder how it possible that is why I am seeking your opinion. Thanks for sharing your views. Have nice time.

Hi Sree, its "necessitiy" that is the mother of invention, and not laziness....Infact it is said that "a lazy mind is the devil's workshop"....Yes lazy minds will soemtimes come out with innovative ideas, but they may not be positive or productive.Very often lazy minds will become the store house of negative or even evil thoughts and deeds.Such people are not really productive in nature and may resort to schemimg or underhand activities to get what they want.....

Maybe the magazine meant that being lazy, you'll want most things to be as convenient as possible. So people start thinking of ways to invent products or servies that cater to this laziness. Or if you look at it another way, efficiency might be the better word.
