Ever forget to stab a potato to let the air out when you cook it in the oven? BOOM! All over the oven. Ever forget that some food shouldn't be in the microwave unless you do something special or different to it? BOOM! All over the microwave!
So have yu ever had food explosions? I have. What were some of your better explosions?

My children loved egg salad when they was young, my daughter ask me if I would make it for her when I got home from work. When I said yes, she decided to help me and put a doxen eggs in the microwave, well when I got home they had blown up and there was eggs everywhere plus the door was warped badly. She was sitting on the couch crying and all I could do was laugh and clean up the mess and remember she was trying her best to help me.

A dozen eggs in the microwave! Wow! I'd be sooo happy she wasn't hurt. That sounds like an incredible explosion. Wonder she didn't go deaf. That was terrific of you to be so understanding and to realize she was just trying to help. Some things you have to learn about first, so now she knows that and that is a big help. Terrific response. This should be an interesting topic. Thanks and take care.

Yes thank go she wasn't in the room, although there was this hurge mess how can you come down on a child that is doing so much to try and help her mom when she has to work. It was a lesson learnt and I don't think she will ever forget it, in fact my son brought her about 4 dozen to make develed eggs for a party and she ask me for a pot big enough to boil them in and I said why not put them in the microwave and save time, he reply was Ha, Ha very funny mother. Thank you for the best response !

Really? Does it have microwave instructions on the tin or no? So I'm not the only person who explodes food. This, I think this will be a fun topic, so we'll see how many foods explode and where.
I just gave you a plus. You used the same pattern to answer my question as I did to write it. Good for you! Now to help yourself get a higher star number and more friends, try for at least 4 sentences per discussion, whether you start the discussion or answer it. 107, you're a little bit on the new to Mylot side, but you've been here awhile, too. So good luck and hope you do well here. Thanks for responding and take care.

I had fried shrimp explode in the microwave because I left it in too long. It was a mess to clean up. Have had spaghetti sauce flung all over the inside of the microwave also because I didn't cover it when reheating. It's hard to get that sauce off the top of the inside of the microwave especially if it's not seen or cleaned up right away.

I am a seafood lover also. I heated spaghetti last night for my husband and what I do is put a wet papertowel over the spaghetti and heat it about 5 min. Keeps the moisture in and keeps the sauce from being flung all over the inside of the microwave. Makes my life easier...lol

Last night, my hubbie and I went out for seafood. It was the first time in in forever. Coupon for 50 years and over. Was like two for one price, I think the portions were smaller, but that's OK. Take care.

Shrimp exploding would hurt my feelings. I sooo love seafood. Isn't it amazing how gluelike or cementlike spaghetti is in a microwave? Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to reheat spaghetti for my hubbie tonight. Thanks and take care.

I have left a potato in the microwave this afternoon for more than it was needed. There is no need to tell you what were the results. I had to clean the mess afterwards. Sometimes I am absent minded when it comes to take care of food. © ronaldinu 2008

I think a lot of us forget sometimes. It's important to remember to concentrate on the cooking, but we have other things on our minds. Thanks and take care.

EGGS..Though I don't forget to poke them, it seems they explode anyways which is why I hate cooking them in the microwave..But sometimes my hsuband is in a real hurry and so I do, just I carefully make sure they are covered and I am very careful when I uncover it..(Heard of serious injuries with eggs and microwaves)

I have a little bit about eggs and microwaves. If you do not have an egg microwave cooker, I read, long ago, that you scramble them with a tablespoon of mayonnaise. I did this a few times, but honestly, it is just as quick and easy on the stove top, and the dish from the microwave never seemed to clean up. Now, this summer I visited my dad, and he gave me a microwave egg cooker. It has two "pockets", and a lid. You can just put your egg in, put a tooth pick through the yolk, or scramble the egg. You will have sprayed the whole egg cooker with cooking spray, top and bottom. Put the top on, microwave on high. In my microwave, it takes one minute. These are excellent in English muffin sandwiches. A low watt cooker might need one and a half or even two minutes.

Even when I scramble them they sometimes "pop" like a little explosion.. I read a few years ago I read where someone had actually lost their sight, from microwaving eggs and this was after the microwave went off, not during the cooking time, when she uncovered the eggs, it exploded and it blinded her in one eye. Since it was long ago I don't think I can find the article or even know where or when I read it..You might be able to search, "the dangers of microwaving eggs" and a story might come up.

Read the one above you, I'm amazed she didn't get killed. Surprised the microwave door didn't blow off.
The only way I do eggs in the microwave is scrambled and I put them of for a few seconds, put the cooked part into the uncooked part, micro about 20 to 30 seconds again (depends on the power of it and whether I'm at home or somewhere with a more powerful one or not), put the cooked in the uncooked part. Takes about three times. Then melt some cheese on top, not bad. Haven't tried poked regular eggs. I do those in the frying pan. Only really do eggs for my hubbie on his days off or for supper. I keep the microwave for reheating meals and for microwaveable dinners. Thanks and take care.

How about exploding food on top of the stove? Did you know you can boil eggs until they explode? I do have greasy things pop all over the inside of my microwave if I do not cover it. I have a microwave egg cooker that is covered, but I hear it popping like wild. I know it would be a mess if there was not a cover on it. I like a plastic colander almost as well as I like my microwave cover for my foods.

Oh I figured there were things I hadn't thought of. No I haven't exploded anything on top of the stove. But with my preserves, jams, jellies, and someday if I do pickles, I'm sure one day, they'll explode.

Hi friend,
I think this is my first experience while i was learning cooking.I have to cook rice for my sister.I put the rice in the rice cooker without a whistle.Thats all because of lot of pressure in the cooker, the cooker top came out of it and the rice started to explore all over. Then when my mother came to home and saw everything and started to scold me like anything. After scolding for quiet a moment, she gave me icecream to eat.hehehehehe..............
Have a nice day.

Your rice cooker, interesting, I don't have a rice cooker. What does it look like? I just use a regular pan and water. Sounds almost like a pressure cooker, but if it had been one of those and it exploded, part of your ceiling would be missing. Exploding rice is a new one on me. Thanks and take care.

Hi friend,
I think no one knows about it if that person out of india. In india, each and every one cook their rice with rice cooker.Due to some technical skills in cooking it happens i suppose.I am very new comer in cooking.Because of lack of skills it happened to me.I feel bad about it,but with that experience i came to how to cook rice.Mistakes are stepping stone for success. It really worked for me.
Have a nice day

No, I've never had anything explode in the microwave. I bet a baked potato makes a terrific mess! Once in a great while when I'm reheating something, I'll forget to cover it with a napkin. And boy, I don't even like cleaning that little mess up. I can't even imagine having to clean up an "explosion" in there.

If you ever had peas or beans in tomato sauce without a cover, that would be a terrific mini pop-pop so watch out for those in sauce. Thanks and take care.

xDD i think ive made more food explosions in the poor abused microwave than a disney fireworks showcase on the fourht of july. When i was younger i would explode peeps with my friends because i guess it was just always amusing to watch the poor bunnies morph into mutint rabbits and then we'd mix it up, then theyd burn a bit or explode. I also loved burning peeps for some reason...the sugar taste really good. xD ah yes i don't think i can make it through the week without making something explode in the microwave. i learned the hard way that you needed to stab the potato but man wheni found i had WAY too much fun stabbing it so i ended up not cooking it. ha i think we have too much fun with life. I love this topic! it was a very good choice. ;)

Exploding potatoes-there is water inside the potato, it builds up when heated (steam), it has to go somewhere. If you don't pick potatoes down to the middle before or after they've been in the oven (need to do it before the pressure builds up), after awhile they explode. Ever cook popcorn? That's an exploding food. If you read the others, eggs in a microwave can also explode. There are actually many exploding foods. Take care.
