what has happened to the movie makers?

maybe i am wrong on this but are all the original ideas gone?
all we seem to see these days are remakes, game to movie crossovers, comics becoming big movie series... the list goes on
when was the last time you saw an original movie?
not based on a book or game or a remake of a classic film?

I guess it's all a case of sticking to a winning formula. Independent film festivals can throw out some amazing movies but they just don't end up making it mainstream enough for us to be able to see them en masse. There is more emphasis on CGI these days too and blue screen technologies to replace actual scenery etc so before we know it there may not even be actors anymore!
