Laptop LCD screen cracked

Captain Morgan, my lovable lunk of a cat, squirmed out of my daughters arms and landed - SPLAT! - right on the kids' laptop, which was open at the time. Now the screen is cracked and I really can't afford a new laptop at this time (of course, it's past warranty). Anybody out there have any suggestions? Is it hard to replace an LCD screen? Would it be better to hook the laptop up to a USB monitor, if I can find a reasonably-priced one?

If you don't mind doing the work yourself, or if you know someone who can do it for you, you will often see them for sale on Ebay. Not sure of the prices and how they compare, and as far as I know it shouldn't be too difficult to do the work yourself and replace it.

I would check first price for new screen. Monitor can cost much more than new screen. Check on craiglist. Maybe someone is giving monitor for free. Many people do.

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks back. After shopping around a bit i found the cheapest i could repair my screen for is £100! My screen is a 15.4" tft. Anyway my laptop is currently hooked up to an old computer moniter which is working fine. I've just been using the latop as a tower and plugged a keyboard and mouse in. Hope this helps yor dilema in some way!
