I prefer to eat chilled fruit. Unfortunately when I keep my apples, oranges or grapefruit in the refrigerator, I forget about them and do not eat them. I keep my fruit on the counter in a bowl. I figure it is better to eat room temperature fruit than throw away chilled fruit. How about you? Do you keep fruit in a visible location, or in the refrigerator?

I like having my fruit room temperature because it feels like I just picked it off some vine. Also, I don't like how cold fruit often feels moist to the touch on the skin.

I never thought of the 'just picked' idea.

You make an excellent point. I do both. I depends on how much fruit I have and what varieties. I like to put out a lot of different things in the bowl, so I will still have some in the frige for later.

I like to eat both chilled or not. I have to keep fruits like grapes, apples and oranges in a refrigerator but not fruits like bananas, mangoes and any other tropical fruits.

I do not like chilled fruit because I have sensitive teeth and would not eat it that way. If I buy a lot, such as a whole basket of apples from an orchard, then I will refrigerate some to keep it fresher and take it out to let it warm up before eating. I would think that fruits like pears and peaches would have to be left out to ripen. Do they ripen when refrigerated? Do bananas ripen slower if refrigerated? I hate that they all seem to ripen at the same time and are then too ripe for my liking a few days later.

Fruit will ripen in the refrigerator, but its slow. Banana skins will turn black in the refrigerator. Its look bad, but the actually fruit will be fine.

Most fruit I prefer at room temperature, with the exception of grapes. For some reason, I prefer those cold. Keeping them at room temperature they spoil faster, or draw fruit flies. What I do to solve this, is to keep them refrigerated, but to take a few out daily to keep in a bowl on my counter. Anything not eaten at the end of the day, I put back in the refrigerator before I go to bed...at least if I remember to...lol

I think I should follow your example and get into a routine of setting out some fruit each day and keeping the extra in the refrigerator.

I find if I don't set it out where it's visible, that I forget it's there and grab something else to nibble on. Something a LOT let healthy. Having some in both places also that others in the family can have it the way they like it, cold or at room temperature. Mine always tells me that they like theirs cold...but the fruit I set out in the bowl disappears pretty fast. It always feels good when the chips get stale and the fruit is gone.

Mom almost always keeps our fruit in the fridge, But I prefer mine unchilled, it hurts my teeth (or rather the nerves...) to eat it cold... so yeah :P I prefer laying them on the counter or something, and am looking forward to the day when I can, until then, Mom keeps them in a drawer in the fridge, and they are frequently forgotten :P

There is the luxury to having your own place, and being able to do things the way you like.
