She's not quite 6 yet, but she's certainly growing up. She announced a couple of days ago that she no longer likes Disney Princess. I continued to ask her about it periodically, because I'm trying to get ideas for Christmas, and I don't want to get her something if she doesn't like it anymore. Basically what I found out is that now she is interested in big girl things, like Hannah Montana and High School Musical, but not Disney Princess, that's for babies!
Before I know it she'll be talking about cute boys! Yikes!!
Are you being shocked into realizing your kids are growing up? What was your first clue that they weren't "little kids" anymore?

My stepson turned 7 in April and this summer he had his first crush on the next door neighbor. She's 8 and also has a crush on him.

I always think it is really sad to realise that they are growing up, mine are still into the same things so they are not showing signs of growing up yet. Although my little girl is, she is 2 but I am noticing her funny baby words for things are disappearing and she is talking more clear and properly now, that is sad. I love it when they have funny words for things, so it is really sad when they stop and start speaking properly.

Baby words are cute, but I've never really encouraged my kids to use them. It's sort of how I was brought up, my mom would always correct me and my siblings, and she hated it when someone spoke baby talk to us.

My daughter is 8 and I remember when she was 5 and announced that Dora was out! They do grow up too quickly don't they. It is hard to buy things for them early for Christmas because of the ins and outs that girls go threw. I don't remember my boys ever being like this. They went from toy wrestler dolls to WWF wrestling to wrestling themselves in school! At least they are consistent.

Yes, my oldest son has always loved sports of any kind, and my 5 year old and toddler boys love cars of any kind. I doubt that will ever change.

A few days ago my 5 year old son decided to give away his Wiggles blanket to his little brother because he was "too old" for it. :(

My youngest said one day, Dad doesn't have to read to me anymore. You see we had cassette tapes back then, and parents could by books with tapes. We had some really funny one. Every night my husband would put the youngest to bed and they would play the cassettes and sing, read just having some fun. Well, my son thought he was to old for that and didn't have the heart to tell dad. How sweet and scary all at once.

I remember those, I used to have some when I was a kid, but none of my kids have ever had them.

Its somewhat good that your daughter has grown out of disney princess so early. My daughter will be 7 next month and she seems to like more and more of disney princess. And she is quite keen on getting herself a big disney princess dress-up kit. My God , my house is full of all the world's princess characters and she wants more of it.But yes i can understand your fear that soon your daughter will start talking of boys and i think it is worse than the princess..lol...

My main concern is that her birthday and Christmas are coming up. If she's given up princesses, what else does she not like anymore, and how difficult is it going to be to shop for gifts for her? Ya know... I wonder if she still likes barbies and that sort of thing. But I don't want to hound her about it, otherwise she'll eventually clue in, lol.

My older daughter is 11. She's 5'3", weights 90 lbs. and wears size 5 shoes. Yikes! But at least she thinks boys are idiots. Hope it stays that way for another 10 years or so. Hm, my first clue she wasn't a little kid any more? Not sure I remember but for her little sister it was when she didn't like Dora the Explorer any more!

My daughter outgrew Dora a few years ago, but I was never crazy about Dora in the first place, so I was glad when that happened.
