I gotta admit, a turtle can walk 1 mile faster than I can type "I love you" but I'm on board now with aol (AIM). I think that's the right abbreviations for the aol messenger thing.
Isn't it a pitty shame that I've been fooling around on the internet for over 4 years and I never even installed and used NO type of messenger?....
OK Mylotters you can get of my back now and stop laughing at me, it isn't really that funny.
One of my dearest mylotter friends wanted to keep up the good chat so he asked me did I have aol messenger, so I said what the heck, let me do something BOLD and just set up the darn thing.
I had some bumps in the road along the way but here I am chatting with my first aol friend. I think it's really koool even though I type like a snail.
Do you use aol or any other messenger thingy?..if so, do you chat often or what?...

I used to use AOL messenger but I got off on the Yahoo messenger and liked it a lot better. For one thing you can use voice with the Yahoo messenger and get out of all the typing. I use mine to keep in touch with some Nephews that live down in Kentucky. It's a pretty good way to communicate.

Just download Yahoo messenger and get it set up with a user name and password. Then get you a head set and plug it into the back of your computer where the speakers are plugged in. You have to set up the voice on the messenger but about anyone that uses the Yahoo messenger can help you with that. Once you get it set up it is real simple to use and works real good.

I use Yahoo messenger. I don't chat as much as used too, I still have my messenger installed. I check if often. When I first obtain my computer that was what I was fascinated with all my family, nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren, had the messenger so it was really fun until I ventured into other things on the net.
You are lucky you have become very popular here on MyLot.
Happy MyLotting.

Hey onlydia, I always go and give you + marks on all of your discussions and all of your comments. Always, every day. And sometimes I respond to your discussions if I have something to say. But I always give you + marks. I am so busy too, I am constantly playing catch up. I haven't even been able to start discussions here I have been so busy lately. Don't think I don't care or I forgot about you. I always check your stuff daily.
Hang in there and happy myLotting!!!
BTW, I do Yahoo messenger and I am new at it too!

Hi Chevee! I never thought of myself popular here on mylot, for one simple fact that I don't usually receive many responses to my discussions.
Yes I did pretty good on a few of my discussions, but most of them are like "ghost town," very empty.
By the way, I sent you my email address a few days ago and you haven't returned my mail yet. What's up with that Chevee?
Did you know that today is my birthday, October 29th. All I want from a friend is a holler back.

Congrats on the move up the communications ladder, and before long you will
be even more involved and more active. The Messenger programs are brilliant for
keeping in touch with friends and family, and I use Windows Live Messenger almost
every day to keep in touch with my sister in Toronto. (I am in the UK!)
There are lots of advantages, and on this one, for example, the technology has
improved to the point that we can leave messages for each other, even if the
other person isn't online, then as soon as they log in, up comes the message.
That's a big plus with the five hour time difference, and saves the aggravation
of trying to find somebody on the phone when they may well be asleep.
Now that you've started, and especially because you're worried about how slowly you type, the next step is speech, and if your present IM does not have a
speech component, it's only a matter of checking out the others and picking
the one you like the look of. There are two possibilities....firstly you can
get the headphones with microphone attached, and if your friend does the same,
you will be able to chat as if you were on a phone. Upmarket from that, you
can get a webcam as well, which then gives you the added possibility of
showing yourself to each other while you're chatting!!
Some people find that thought a bit off-putting, because, let's face it, there
are those among us who would absolutely hate anybody else to see us without
our 'outdoor' face, full make-up, hair exquisite etc. etc. On the other hand,
the men among us probably have no such reservations, but to each his own, and
I'm sure you will have great fun, whatever you decide to do. As for the typing
speed, those of us who use two fingers are quite happy as long as we don't get
to the point of typing faster than we can think. Happy days, and here's a
thought for you....Windows and Yahoo have already made an arrangement so that
members of one IM can use their identity to talk to friends on the other!

That's pretty neat, I'm thinking about just joining Yahoo or windows, or maybe even both, it won't hurt to get a feel of both to see which one I like the most.
As far as typing slow, if I really pay more attention to the keys, I'll be typing 2xs faster by next week.

I'm pretty much behind the learning curve on that too. I have yahoo messenger, but only one friend that I talk to, and that's only infrequently. I really don't know how to connect with people to chat with or I think I would do it more.

Oh I did actually use Yahoo voice once and talked to him directly. Now that was cool! You just have to have a headset to do it.

That's the part I want to dive into, (the voice chatting that is!)
Oh no I don't have any headphones, I just have earphones without the mouthpiece, uh oh, that kills my day, oh well I'm happy again.

You can get good headphones fairly inexpensively at Best Buy, they have a number of designs and price ranges. I use mine to dictate into my voice recognition program so I got a good pair of gaming headphones; but for chatting you may not need anything so elaborate. Although, mine only cost $27.00 and if you pay a little extra for the 2 yr warranty, they replace them no questions asked if anything goes wrong. It's worth having a pair because you can also use them to make sound recordings on your computer with free software you can find on the internet. You can then email those recordings to friends and family or post them to social forums. Cool huh. Anyway, just a thought.:D

aim can cause your pc to mess up because it doesnt get along with some other programs.. the virus concept would be more about when you try to DELETE it off your pc.. they weave their files all over your hard drive and in areas that arent even for aol/im.. so to clean it out it takes hours of searching AFTER you uninstall it to find where all the little files are hidden

I didn't know about the virus/spyware crap. I know a lot of people that use about all of aol products and they never have any problems with it.

I gotta admit, i am not a huge fan of AIM, but I do use yahoo every once in a long while. I type really fast, so sometimes my thoughts get faster than my hands can move, lol...I do like yahoo though. I even have a blog page there, but I don't blog much there anymore!

I used to use Yahoo Messenger years ago but got a bad virus from it and totally ruined my computer. I've sworn off instant messaging software since then. I'm sure things have improved but I have no desire to take such a chance again. Have fun with your IM!

I use Yahoo Messenger to chat with a few of my friends. Chatting is really fun! A few of my friends even found their better half over it. . Believe it or not. I understand you had trouble at first, but you'll get used to it in the long run and before you know it you will able to type much more faster.

Hi! Well I am not an internet buff until just recently. I had my internet connection last February. I use Yahoo Messenger and during my first years I love chatting with my friends and family members. But when I joined mylot I seldom chat anymore. I so love being here in mylot everyday and I don't want to get disturbed by friends who likes to chat so I use the invisible status. I do chat with them but only during weekends and only for an hour.
Ciao!

Hi! syankee! I can see you changed your picture. Tired of the last one?..
I have to tell you again, you type mighty fast with just two fingers. You are darn better than me. I'm typing with one finger right now just tapping letter by letter, but it took me 4ever to get to this point, but that's because I'm holding my baby with my other hand.
I don't feel bad, I'll just practice more.
