Do you prefer a mouse of the touch pad?

I am using a notebook for work and everything else and I use a mouse to navigate on my screen. I hate to use the touch pad as it is hard for me to control and when I type, it tends to move the cursor all over the place and then I would be typing lots of nonsensical words.
Today, I have forgotten to bring my mouse to the office and I have to turn on the touch pad. I really hate it as I have to type slower than usual and I have to make sure that my wrists are higher than usual so that they would not accidentally touch the pad and send my cursor to somewhere else. I am so used to a mouse and it makes me feel kind of handicapped without it.
How many of you use a mouse instead of the touch pad on your notebook?
However, I have met a few people who love the touch pad instead. The reasons that they give are it is easy to just use what is attached to the notebook instead of having to bring an additional gadget and add an additional weight to the whole computer bag and they feel that the touch pad is faster to navigate with compare to a mouse especially when you have a very small working place such as a coffee table at a cafe.
I do agree with those points but I still find it difficult to live without a mouse. What about you? Cheers!

I think if you had an optial mouse you wont need any mouse pad anymore. It actually just cost around $4 to buy one. I think if you had an optical mouse you wont need to clean it and just keep on using it. Im actually using one and i have been using it for quie some time and its still working. I actually prefer using an optical mouse than the traditional one which needs a mouse pad. hehe

Before I bought a laptop I have always used a mouse and I think a mouse is easier to handle than a touch pad. However after I bought a laptop, my mouse was ruined and I always forgot to buy one whenever we go out for shopping. Furthermore there is always the touch pad to use as an alternative to the mouse, that is why I was not urgently desperate to buy the mouse. As time goes by now I am used to using the touch pad and think both equipments has its own benefits and disadvantages. To me when using a mouse we have to frequently shift our hand movements from the mouse to the keyboard. But by using the mouse it is easy to control the monitor screen. Now that I know how to use both, I am not very particular in each type as long as I can get my work done for the day.

Maybe I am a traditional person but I have never made heads or tails how to use a touch pad. I always use a mouse attached with the notebook. I cannot work without it and I always place a mouse in the notebook briefcase. © ronaldinu 2008

Personally I am a mouse person. I suppose its all the years of using it, that it just feels so normal and natural whereas a trackpad just doesn't feel right.
When I am using the Laptop, I always take a mini Mouse to use whenever possible, but sometimes it can't be avoided and i have to manage with track pad.

I have no problem in using either touch pad or mouse. Usually if I am at home or in my room, I will use mouse. If I am outside like at library, cafe or have discussion with friends outside my house or room I use touch pad. I am lazy to take mouse around. I have no problem using touch pad. I don't feel like slow in doing what I am doing. I also think bring mouse is just adding extra weight. I prefer to use mouse in my room and touch pad when I am outside.

I am so used to the mouse it is hard to make the transition. And believe me I have tried. I have 2 laptops, one at home , one in the office, which I do not use as much. But when I try I seem to not have as much control. It is ok for little tasks and if you are just on for a short while, but longer than a few minutes, I can not use it at all.
I have a wireless mouse and it takes up no room and is tiny, so easy to carry and use.

I can use anyone of them now. In the beginning I was using the mouse and I had grown accustom to it and did not have any problems once I figured out how to move it to get it where I wanted to go. Then I purchased my lap top and I had to use the touch pad, at first it was a nightmare, but I got use to it and now it really does not matter which one I use.

I love the mouse. I hate the touchpad for the same reasons...it can go back on you, or move your cursor around, or just plain make life difficult. I know that you can make it stop with that button above it, but that's annoying to b.c when you do want to move the cursor or arrow around, you have to unfreeze the touchpad. It really is annoying.

I like both of them sometimes i use mouse and some times i use touch pad it depends upon the time and work when i have to do a serious work in a limited time period then i use mouse coz i feel myself more compatible with mouse when there is not much work of no time limit then i use touch pad but i think mouse is a better alternate for quick work.

1 point for the mouse. Even if the mouse is an extra gadget to carry around with your notebook, I feel more comfortable using it than sliding my finger on the touch pad, well not for office but rather gaming. I use a small mouse for less weight and space.

I used to have a desktop computer before having a laptop and I also used a desktop computer in the office so am used to using a mouse. Even I had my laptop a few months ago, I still use a mouse. I specially bought it for my laptop, it is small and has the same color with my laptop. But if I go out and bring my laptop along, I don't bring my mouse. Sometimes even at home, I try to use only the touchpad so that I can get used to it. But there are times, like when I am using Photoshop, that I cannot do it without a mouse. It is easier for me with a mouse. When browsing the internet, I can do so by using only the touchpad.

I prefer to use a mouse with my laptop. I use a USB mouse and plug it in, it seems to be the most convenient. I have a small wireless mouse that is made for a laptop but I seem to misplace it because I am moving around with my laptop and the wireless mouse is not attached to it. The batteries need to be replaced periodically and when they get weak operation gets erratic.
I use the touch pad too when no mouse is handy. It takes awhile to learn how to use it. What you should do is go to your Control Panel Mouse and adjust the setting on your touch pad. You can adjust the sensitivity down so that a casual touch does nothing so if you accidentally brush against it it does not do anything. There are also functions to your touch pad that are there that are not necessarily included in the default position.
