Trivia for today 10/28/08: Can 'CSI' make you fat?

Looks like it. A new study indicates that popular crime dramas such as "CSI," "Law & Order" and "The Closer" may be contributing to growing girth. How? By reminding viewers that they will die.
The study found that when people think about dying, they experience a strong urge to consume more of everything. "Mortality salience," an awareness of one's own inevitable demise, explains why some subjects in two parallel studies consumed 25 percent more cookies and shopped for more comfort foods than their control-group counterparts.
Of course, mortality salience is only one reason why a person might fall into the overconsumption trap. Some folks are just in the habit of reaching for the remote with one hand and the chips with the other.

Wow. I didnt know that. I know that being a couch potato is a factor that contributes greatly to obesity. But I didnt know watching a specific TV show does just that. Amazing how we can discover things through research.

Hmm very intresting. I thought it was going to say it made you fat because it's on for hours at a time and we veg on the couch and watch it! lol. I don't really believe it's too true. I have been addicted to CSI and Law and Order for about 3 years now and i'm still my pre CSI weight! LOL happy mylotting.
