http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081028/ap_on_re_us/safe_haven I am sad to see this is happening a lot. Even sadder to see that they will amend the rules to only for infants up to 3 days old. I hope this will stop the irresponsible adults from dropping off their kids. This is outrageous 15 yrs old, imagine how she must feel. Being abandon at 15. I really wish that there is less news about infants being found “not breathing” in dumpster because the number of days have been reduced. How do you feel about this amendment?

I heard a little bit of this on the news, but didn't realize they said 3 days. I think that is bad since lots of people may realize after a few months that they would have been better off letting the baby be adopted and then won't have any place to turn. But I think that someone leaving teenagers off like that is unspeakable and inexcusable! There has to be family members that could help with the upkeep of older children. But, this 3 day rule might mean more kids are dropped in dumpsters, but I pray not.

Not everyone has family and friends to help out. I think in situations like that society needs to step in and help the mom out. I myself have gotten frustrated beyond belief at my oldest son, and even (only for a moment) thought about military school or other such things, because I get to my wits end on a daily basis. Of course I'd never abandon him, but sometimes having some help would be nice, I just don't have the family or friends to help me.

Hi Barb and Katesmeow, I agree, sometimes family member and friend lending a helping hand for the day can make a difference. I sure wish the officials will rethink the three day rule because infants are very young and need lots of care. I am too afraid to think what will happen to these babies if their parents decide they ware not ready for a baby, and it is passed three days.

That is a sad story. I could not imagine dropping off my 15 year old daughter. I could not imagine the hurt and pain the young girl must feel. Maybe just maybe the family could not afford to feed, cloth, and shelter her in this hard economy.

I hope there is a happy ending for this child. I mean she is almost an adult, and if indeed they could not afford to feed her and shelter her, there are services available out there to help families in need too. At least I hope, there is such services. There is so much going on in this world that sometimes it amazes me what I hear and it breaks my heart When I hear them about children in particular. A child should never have to endure such pain and humiliation regardless of what they did or how much it cost to raise one.

I also hope that this child receives a happy ending. You do bring up a good point about there being help out there and some of the crazy stuff people do. I agree that a child should not have to endure that kind of hurt. I guess I am just hoping there is a real reason behind it and not just another crazy lazy parent doing something stupid to hurt their child.

I don't know what would cause someone to abandon children at all. This is so sad.

It is sad, and heartbreaking when you hear about teens also being abandon. I don't understand how a parent can do this to their child and then drive home like dropping off a book at the library. This is very sad.
