Why Do People Lie About Themselves On The Internet?

I recently came across someone who I have been talking for along time. He claims to live in one country and he really lives in another. He also, lied about his age. Why do people on the internet feel they have to lie about who they are? How old they? What they look like? Etc. It's childish and dumb. If, more people were honest? I believe more people would fall in love or develoe friendship's. If, you have ever lied. Tell me why?

i think the reason that people do this is because they are not comfortable in there own skin and they do not have enough self esteem so it probably makes them feel better to portray someone they want to be. i do not know i think its creepy because old people do that stuff too trying to talk to young girls. you have to be careful with trusting what people say on the internet.

Your right, I have trusted too much. I need to put a shield up. Thank you

The one thing I have never done is lie about myself on the internet, I really do not see the point. I sometimes have to remind myself when I am online that not everyone is who they say they are and I find it hard to believe when I find out that someone is not being truthful.
