Is RELIGION a ver important basis to choose your partner in life?

Does it matter if a couple has different religion? my uncle said that if both of you are still new lovers, it may not be a problem still..But as time goes by, both of you are heading into a confrontation that will lead you to an argumentation about your religion...who's gonna transfer? the guy or the girl? is there a need to tal\ckle this kind of issue?
