I love asian dramas but that's probably because I never got into north american tv shows. But I only watch shorter stuff (from 10-60 episodes at most) and I watch them all at once instead of having to wait for the next episode to come out. Also, I'm asian ^^ and watching these dramas help me improve my languages (except Korean which I have to depend completely on subtitles). Watching dramas are the same as watching stuff like Friends. They're fun to watch and have an easy-to-follow storyline. You need to reach a compromise with your sister. Maybe one of you can tape while the other one watches so that one of you will have to wait to watch it after the actual playing time and then switch. That's what my brother and I do.

Yes, I do download them :) They're available all over the internet and with subtitles too. If you tell me what your sister likes to watch, I can recommend some sites where she can either download them or watch straight online (and whether she likes them subbed or dubbed or original). Once you download them, convert them and burn them onto a disc for your DVD player. You can tape shows with any recordable VCR and DVD player (note recordable). They are more expensive than just regular players but the prices are almost the same and it's more beneficial in the long run(I bought mine for about $30-40 and it tapes straight onto recordable DVDs). It really depends on what machine you have. All I have to do is go to the set-up menu, go to recording, fill in all the info (channel, time duration, etc.), and press ok. Then, I just leave the DVD player on and it will automatically record when it's time. You can also program it to record at the same time and day every week.

*cough* I'm not trying to get you to download illegal material online (although it's not illegal to download a drama unless it's been licensed in your country). So, if anyone else reads this discussion and feels strongly about buying their own dvds, I agree that originals are always best and should be paid for, unless they're not available in my area.
