How often do you walk your dogs?

I try to walk Eddie every afternoon when it cools down. My baby pug is too small to walk yet, and she wouldn't be able to walk as far as Eddie anyway because of pugs' tendency to overheat very easily. I think when she is big enough, I will walk the pug in the morning before the sun gets too hot and then Eddie in the afternoon. At least Iw ill be getting plenty of exercise! So how often do you walk your dog and when do you do it, also how far do you walk them?

Well, If I had a dog. I would have my son do it. I live in the city and I don't think that having a dog is nice to the dog no place to run. Dogs need to run. I think that way because I was raised in the country for part of my life. When I moved to the city the dogs never looked happy like the dogs in the country do. But I did have one. She was great until she tried to take my friends arm off. So had to put her down. I cried and that is the other reason I will never have a do0g again. Your friend onlydia

I walk Tina twice a day. I take her up the hill, set her loose, and let her enjoy a few minutes of total anarchy. She digs, chases butterflies, plays with the cats (who also follow us whenever we go on a walk), runs around like crazy, and finally demands to be taken back home. Since she is a hyperactive mutt, she loves all the activity she can get. I can't give her that much freedom at home; she would chew the place down, myself included. :) Cheers and happy mylotting

I don't know her breed. She is a mix of some sort, but she is a beauty. I got her from the animal shelter. She is a rescued baby. Some heartless creatures had tossed her away. I despise people who ill treat animals in this way.

They say the more the better! I walk my dogs at least four times a day and more if I can. But of course I kinda have to cause they are in the house. I have read that many dog problems such as aggressiveness, anxiety and disruptive behavior can all be fixed with just getting their proper amount of exercise. Good topic question

Our dog gets walked twice a day in the winter and many times more in the summer because we are out a lot more. She would drive us insaneif we didn't take her out. In fact she orders us to take her out at set times.

I do not have a dog, but I see others in my community walk their dog in the evening so that is what I would probably do.

Many years ago I had 2 Lhasa Apsos and I used to walk them every evening. I had to stop because people used to let their dogs run loose in the neghborhood. More than a few times a dog approached us and my dogs, being on the small side, wanted to fight these larger dogs. I was so afraid they would get hurt. So, I fenced in my backyard instead and played with them out there in the evenings. My mother's little Shih Tzu was actually attacked by two Australian Shepherds who dug their way out of their yard. She was not badly injured, but my mother never walked her again. She did the same thing and fenced her yard. Now I have 3 little dogs, a Yorkie, a Yorkie/Cairn mix and a Papilion/Chi mix. They get a lot of excercise just running and playing in the yard, so I don't usually walk them. After school and on the weekends they are outside running and playing with my daughter for hours. I think it is best to have more than one dog so they have companionship of another of their kind. I can't spend every minute with them, but they still have someone to be with. In fact, none of my dogs have ever been alone.

It angers me when owners don't fence their dogs in properly. That must have been terrifying for your mother and her Shih Tzu. Your dogs sound gorgeous, I love Yorkies and Chihuahuas! I agree that when there are two or three dogs, they'll usually tire themselves out just by playing with each other! Although it is sad that because of other people's irresponsibility that you're too afraid to take them for walks.

I don't currently have any dogs yet. I'm going to attend school in TX come January though to become a professional dog trainer. So when I get back I'll have myself two awesome trained rescue dogs to love & spend time with. I plan on walking them at least once a day, if not twice. I want to start exercising more & I really look forward to having two walking buddies! Not only do I plan to walk my dogs daily I also plan to have them compete in agility contests, and to take them downtown with me whenever possible. I also plan to take them to dog parks, to familes houses that have dogs & to & I also plan to do some of my training classes down in the downtoan park. My dogs will be very well socialized, happy, heathly members of society who are free to have fun & explore the world!

I don't walk my dogs. I have a large backyard and they can run/play out there. Where I live, it's not really safe to walk a dog since there are idiots who want to turn their dog loose on yours to see who will win the fight. That happened to me many years ago when I had my Rottweiler/Doberman mix. I was walking him and some idiot with a American Pit Bull Terrier said he was going to let his dog loose to prove his dog was tougher than mine- keep in mind that my dog was very mellow and ignored other dogs. I told him it wouldn't be wise to do that since I never left the house unarmed, and that I'd have no problem at all shooting him (the man, not the dog)...he didn't let the dog loose :)

well, I am lucky enough to have a very large yard but my dogs go out at least 1/2 dozen times a day. and run and chase squirrels. Because I now have 4 dogs it is hard to walk that many BIG dogs at once. unless my roommate is going with me- and it is still a chore then. lol we do it as a treat sometimes when it is nice out. But when I had 2 dogs we used to go out 2-3 times a day and we would always at least walk around one block.

We once had a dog named Chin Chin and my mom walked her every night for around thirty minutes, that was our dog's poop and at the same time, excercise time as well. Usually they walk for less than five hundred meters and whenever our dog had finished her business, they would head back home.

I think you should leave your dog outside and let it run around. They need their exercise. But at least ones, you should should take the dog for a walk. It is good for you and the dog to get some fresh air.

Now that it is cooler here, I probably walk Sherlock three times a day. On occasion just twice. When it was summer it was so difficult for me to take him anywhere because I don't do well in the sweltering humidity and heat of an Oklahoma summer. I probably walk him half a mile each walk, at night sometimes a full mile. He's always ready to go as far as I'll take him.

When I do go out walking, Domingo usually comes with and we walk a few miles. I used to do it daily but now only when I can. I have a huge yard that he loves to run around full blast in a few times a day. Funny watching him cause he really gets into his runs. Growling/huffing/wild look in eyes.

I have 4 japanese spitz at the moment and I walk them regularly early in the morning or in the afternoon after office hours. It's our time of bonding and playing. I walk them separately since it's not easy to walk them all at once.

I do not walk my dog, my partner does. They go bush bashing together in a wonderful male bonding session. I get to hear about it when they come home. I think they are gone for about an hour and it is every day unless my partner is not feeling well or it is raining. I have gone with them one or twice but I am not well and find walking difficult. I do not go out much at all.
