Wow 1940? 68 years old and still as popular as when it was first created. Such a simple idea, cat chases mouse and mouse always evades cat and yet it has gone from strength to strength and infinite amount of episodes! Truly wonderful idea which has made many people happy and millions of viewers all over the world laugh at their antics! I bet they never thought they'd created such a piece of history and it has well exceeded their expectations for sure!

Hello youless. I did not know when it started to show on TV, but I seem to know about the name Tom and Jerry, a cat and a mouse. I used to play the games of a cat chasing a mouse, Tom and Jerry, which is so interesting to play. So this cartoon does have a long history and is still so popular. Good day, youless.

Hi youless. Im surprised that Tom and jerry started very long ago. I love 'em so much that whenever i have a chance to watch cartoon channels and browse on this show, I cant help not to watch them. I even bought some DVDs of them for my nephew and watched with him couple of times when I was still in the Philippines. They are just so funny and so cute when they fight and do silly things to revenge on each other..

Yeah... it is a very old cartoon.
How one mouse and one cat can keep kids entertained over the years is really amazing isn't it?
From the black and white version all the way to the color versions of today.
The best part is, people never tire of Tom being the underdog most of the time.
How Jerry is always able to get out of sticky situations that Tom always put him in.
And how Tom will never give up trying to catch Jerry.
ha ha ha ha ha...

Well, I stillg et to watch time from time to time on TV. There is a channel dedicated to all these old cartoons.
It is almost the same as the Tom and Jerry of today. Tom try to catch Jerry. Jerry scheme to out wit Tom. Tom gets whacked. Jerry escapes.
Nothing much changed in the way the cartoon stories are formulated through the years.

The first Tom and Jerry cartoon was created sometime in 1940. The film was not yet called, "Tom and Jerry," but it was simply a short cartoon film about a cat and a mouse, with a title "Puss gets the Boot". The cat character in this film was named "Jasper", and the mouse's name was not mentioned. Later, more of these Cat and Mouse shorts were created and becoming more and more popular especially to kids, the film producers decided to give the pair a new name. They opened a contest within the industry for the best names for the pair, and the entry "Tom and Jerry" was picked as the winner.

My daugther loves Tom and Jerry... but i do not like the old version because i think it is too violent... the new one is a lot tamer or like more child friendly... so i still let her watch it...
I guess Tom and Jerry started out at the same time as Mickey Mouse...

Tom & Jerry is my all time favorite. A lot of the earlier shows are in black and white. I like the color version better.
