Do you eat icing?

Now, I don't mean do you eat the icing that's on the cake, but just plain spoonfuls of icing? I do and I love it. Cans of icing were on sale the other day at the store and I bought 3 cans! One chocolate (which is almost gone), one vanilla (which will be next) and one cream cheese (which I will actually put on a cake!). My husband thinks it's sickening that I sit there watching TV eating spoonfuls of icing.
I know just about everyone licks the bowl or takes a small taste when making a cake, but do you ever just buy the can of icing to eat as a snack or treat??

I like SOME icings. A lot of them are too sweet, & I like the "whipped" kind best. I wouldn't eat spoonfuls of it; because that just isn't healthy for me. I sometimes will eat half a spoonful(shh! :) ). It usually ends up giving me a sugar headache. Still yummy!

I could probably eat half the can of it in one sitting, if not all of it. I don't even get a stomach ache! I just love really sweet stuff. But, yeah, it's not good for me either. I try not to do this too often or I'd weight 500 pounds!

I'll eat it as a snack, but probably not a whole meal - although I could.
And, um.. NO, I'm the farthest thing from skinny. Even at my "ideal" weight (in my mind) I'm about 10-15 pounds over what the doctors say I should be. Right now I'm about 50 pounds overweight. I so do not need to be eating icing!!!

When I was younger I used to eat the icing right out of the cantaior or I would scrape the icing off the sided of the bowls and eat it after mom had baked a cake now I give the bowls to my kids I just don't like that much of a sweet taste all at once anymore.

I used to share it with my kids, but they're grown now so I get to eat it all myself :)

I have been known to have a bit of extra icing left over from a cake and to take that container and eat it. I have also been depressed before and ate almost a half of a tub at once. The chocolate icing just calls to me at times! Rarely can I take so much sweetness all at once though. I guess you could consider it like a bowl of ice cream.

Well, I finished the chocolate and started on the vanilla tonight... I'm surely not going to lose any weight this way!
I remember at my wedding my sister scraped off all the icing that was left on the plate and put it in a dish for me. I saved it until after the honeymoon and ate a bit every night for about a week!

I used to ALWAYS eat the left over icing...... My mam used to always call me when she was finished baking a cake to give me the bowl with the icing.... But then one day I ate too much.... and got sick..... Haven't eaten the stuff since....
Not that I can anymore.... (diabetic)

Well, I guess it's a good thing you can't eat it any more, it's not really a good thing to do. I don't do it often - maybe a couple times a year. It is soooo good to me...

I remember when i was still a kid i always like to eat icing. Whenever my cousins or its my birthday i dont eat the cake but instead i lick all the icing on it. Especially the flower decorations which are made of icing. Even up to now i make icing just put it on top of the muffins or i make merengues. And for me its the best treat for myself.

When I was a kid - and still as a grown up - we would "fight" over who'd get the corner peice of the cake because it had extra icing! My nephew doesn't like icing, he always wants just plain cake.

I do! I used to all the time! I wish I still could now! I crave it all the time! It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo good all by itself! I personally think that you are SUPPOSED to eat icing/frosting all by itself! It is SOOOOOOOO sweet and takes away your sweet tooth! It is just yummy! And now I want some! *LOL* :)

I hope you got your icing fix! I have been eating it for about a week now so I'm probably not going to have any more for a while. I just get a taste for it and have to have it!

Icing is essentially sugar with a bit of flavouring and a bit of colour sometimes, this is essentially the same as candies, so you are really eating really soft candy. I love the icing and almond paste on the top of fruit cake although I am not sure I would eat it by itself. If that is your worst vice I would count yourself lucky.

Thanks! I have such a sweet tooth! I could eat candy/sweets all day and not be bothered by it - except gaining a zillion pounds...

never by the spoonful, no. if i have a bit leftover, i will dip a few pretzels in it, which is yummy! but then again, the only types of store bought frosting that i like is chocolate. that white stuff in the can is just icky! if it's not chocolate, it got to be homemade. (and if it's homemade, why not make it with cream cheese?)

Dipping stuff in it is good too - cookies are really good dipped in icing. But for a good night-time snack, I just eat it out of the can. I do make home-made sometimes, but only if I have to have it RIGHT NOW - and if I have all the ingredients!!!

WHOA!! I never even thought of that!! Too bad I'm done with the chocolate icing... I'll have to remember it for the next time (which hopefully wont be for a while, I'm trying to diet...).

Dang, that sounds good too, but I really want to save the cream cheese icing for the velvet cake I have... Well, I can always buy more icing for the cake later...

If it is chocolate or buttercream I could probably eat afew spoonfuls. But if itis that white stuff that tastes like a mixture of sugar and lard then I say a wholehearted "NO THANKS!" I would gag.

mmmm.... buttercream is good too!!!
I know the stuff you're talking about too - that white stuff. I don't buy cakes from bakeries that use that, it's nasty!

Hey reiny! Oooooooo! You are worse then me! Even I don't
do that! I used to put some icing on cookies at least!
But I never sat down with a can of icing to eat with a
spoon! Ewwww! That is too sweet even for me! How can you
eat that? I love sweets, but even I can't tolerate a
spoonful of icing without a cookie or cake? I will lick
some when I make the cake, but that's it! I will tell
you what I could eat though. I could eat the entire cake
batter! That I could do! The cake could end up never
being made! So between the two of us if we were to try
to "make a cake", the cake would never be made!lol. I
would eat the entire cake batter and you could eat the
entire can of frosting!lol And then we could have the
eaten the cake that never was!lol What do you think?
Do you want to not bake a cake with me?

Opal!! You are TOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!!! What a pair we make!! We definitely can't be at baking parties, we'd never get anything made! I do like the batter too and always leave quite a bit in the bowl when I'm making a cake!

I'm sure that stuff is nothing but sugar! I do occasionally eat it though, but just the end after we put it on a cake, the leftovers. It makes my throat hurt to eat a lot of something really sweet like that, and after a while it makes me feel ill, but it really is so good!

I do eat icing but not too much because it's a bit on the sweet side and when eaten too much it makes me feels different. I prefer eating icing together with the cake which will taste better. Hey, a lady got to watch her figure you know and I better do or else will end up like a ballon. But I fancy more on fresh cream which is less sweet and is yummy..
