Diabetes is not always familial. In fact it is a disease which can be placed in a group of familial disease. But you can say there is chance but it dose not mean that you will surely have it. may be you won't owe it at all till the end...so keep smiling.........

hello dev21lucky,
well that is indeed a true fact for diabetes has familial tendencies. till now a lot of studies have been conducted that indicate that there is a strong association between heredity and diabetes mellitus. further, stronger the family history, greater is the tendency of getting diabetes. family history could be used to identify individuals at different levels of risk or to influence health-promoting behaviors. Further, preventive efforts could be extended to family members who may be at an increased risk, or who may be influential in helping to modify a relative's health behavior. i hope that this would help you.
well have a very great day here at mylot. and happy postings!

My father in-law has diabetes and no one is scared of contacting the disease because it is not a CONTAGIOUS disease, you can get it through contact or sharing anything including needles and razors, the disease is sometime genetic but you cant get it from far relatives, but maybe a parents. Dont worry its not a stressful disease, I have not seen my fathar in-law sick.........you just learn to control your blood sugar and eat healthy foods.

diabetes does have genetic factors playing a role in its causation, but there are other factors like lifestyle, diet, infections playing a part.risk of getting diabetes is increased if u have a first-degree relative suffering from the disease.as you say none of your family members having the disease, then u have little chance of getting diabetes.but, you must maintain a halthy lifestyle like regular exercise and a healthy diet by taking a good amount of fibres in your diet.

Hi dev,
May be or may not be!!!!!
Because familial diabetes need specific genes present in you,If you have genes which predispose to cause diabetes than you will get Diabetes. And if they are not present in you than you don't need to worry about familial diabetes.
