There has been a lot of talk from the McCain camp lately about Obama going back on his promise to accept public funding while running his campaign. (Sounds like sour grapes to me, but that's another story.)
Obama's campaign lawyer met with McCains campaign lawyer on June 6 to discuss this. McCains lawyer broke off talks after 40 minutes, it seems that they didn't want to discuss the fine print that included the use of 527's among other things. Although the Obama camp may not have been as aggressive as they could've been I think maybe they saw they weren't going to get anywhere talking to a "brick wall."
McCain keeps touting this letter that Obama supposedly signed saying he would accept public financing. I guess I want to know where this letter is. I can't find any evidence of it anywhere. Why hasn't the McCain camp produced it?

The 'letter' (as well as a solid interpretation of the alleged "pledge") can be found here:
"The Obama campaign is correct in arguing that there is nothing in the Feb. 1 letter to the FEC that can be fairly interpreted as committing the campaign to accepting public financing." -- http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/02/the_obama_pledge_1.html
And there's also this:
"In late February, Sen. John McCain accused Sen. Obama of hinting in a USA Today op-ed that he would renege on his pledge to accept public financing in the general election. In the op-ed, Obama wrote that if he was tapped to be the Democratic nominee he would push for an "agreement in good faith that results in real spending limits." Presumably, the "real spending limits" Obama mentioned would be different from the $84.1 million the FEC is offering." -- http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/what_is_public_financing.html

Hello soccermom.
I am hating this election. I think they all spend way too much of whoever's money they are spending. I am so sick of the nasty commercials on TV, mostly the Republican side but I've seen a few jabs at McCain from Obama's camp as well. I am sick of the postcards in the mail- what a waste of paper. I am sick of Obama's people ringing my doorbell and calling me on the phone.
I don't like either candidate, so someone give me a reason to vote for one of them. Please?

Here's just one. (I'm at work so I don't have a lot of time.) Today Exxon reported it's biggest profits per quarter yet. That's two quarters in a row with record profits for the oil giant. And while the American people are struggling what does McCain want to do? Give "big oil" more tax cuts and make sure that the upper 5% keeps their tax cuts while the rest of us struggle to find/keep jobs and pay our bills.
As far as the post cards in the mail, you should see our mailbox on a daily basis, only instead of federal candidates it's local ones. It's ridiculous!

Does the letter really matter? I mean election is only a few days away, is not seeing this letter going to make you vote for Obama. How about where is Obama's proof for all the things he has said about McCain, How about Obama keeping his word and not Lieing so much. Just an Opinion! Why do so many waste there time on this the election is about the issues who's going to raise taxes, abortion rights, the economy, our military, protecting the US, stopping Government from taking and spending all our hard earned money. Good Luck and God Bless.

And most important, Leaving my children with an America that is worth fighting for. God Bless
