Because of the fact that I just accept friends request and sometimes without looking at their profile, I do'nt have an accurate idea of what kind of human I'm dealing with(I mean the gender).
I have experienced to respond on certain discussions that my friends had started, only to be corrected that the address I used for them was meant the otherway around.
My friend, although they accepted my apology but the guilt of being a friend but not knowing their gender nor their civil status is hunting me. So I started to make a list of my 300 plus friends, their gender, their life status and their stars if any. That way it would be easier for me to recognized whom I'm responding with, since many users here have thesame name as the other sexes have.
Have you done this too, mistakenly called a woman as a man, or a man as a woman?

Maybe I did make that same mistake here sometime ago, but I make it a rule to try to do some research first, if that doesn't work I try address anyone safely by not suggesting any gender at all. hehe. People make mistakes everyday my friend. yours is not an exception. It is an honest mistake and it is not done out of sarcasm or whatever. The good people here in mylot knows that and doesn't really mind. For those of them who have known your character on mylot I think they can forgive you. I however try to make my avatar match my gender or even more clearer as my own picture so other members won't find it hard to tell the difference. You avatar is fine anyway. Since Omar is intended for a male individual your spiderman avatar gives the impression that you are indeed male. Cheers!!!

Yeah bro! You can guess my gender on my name and my avatar, as well as you. Those users that does not uploaded any avatar and with peculiar names are those that I often mis addressed, though they do'nt react badly, but for me it's too bashful or shameful. Your right addressing them in general will skip those kind of mistake safely. Take Care "Wolvy"

I used to chat with the help of private messages with one of my mylot friends. I was considering iim a male although i never used any words for gender but then i did realize some time back that she was female. But its really humorous when that happens. I sometimes think about the integrity of friendship on mylot. Is it eligible to be called a social networking site? Ya agreed a good knowledge sharing platform

Maybe to make the friendship more stronger, our friends should include their necessary info on their profile. What's the use of hiding your true gender to other users or friends.....Some people are too wierd. You're right, you've got your personalized user's name, that is enough to hid your true identity....Thanks and take care always.

Well, on other sites I often commit this mistake. Hehe. Here on myLot though I make it a point to look into the person's profile so I can address him/her with sir/mam. If not I just speak in general so as not to call someone he as she or vice versa. I think we do need to double check first before when we talk to someone we do not know fully.

Selece, first thanks for the response. I think what causes me to that mistake was my hurriedness in making comments and responses to all my friends, and other users here in this site. Now I have not just double checked it but I always carry my notebook consisting of my 300 plus friends......Thanks and take care...

Yes, Omar, I have made that assumption....as I do not look at profiles, I just accept friends based on their posts!
You did mention that it is possible to tell (sometimes) from avatars! My son, who is very "computer literate"...has tried many times to set up an avatar for me...but it just doesn't happen!
Have a "spooktacular" Hallowe'en! Cheers!

Yeah! Only sometimes, cause there are avatars that look like fimine but actually it's a male user. So we look in their profile to know their true gender, but sometimes again they did not include it. That's why some users got confused unto whom are they dealing with. Happy mylotting, take care of your self this halloween..

Thesame as you, adding too many friends were truly confusing if we never looked at their profile. You're Idea of looking at their profile before accepting their friend request is an act of cautious individual. Just do what you think is right...Thanks and take care....

I like to know what gender I am dealing with, but not necessary civil status.
I am not here for date, so civil status has no usage for me.
Gender in the other hand will help me a lot, because I feel much better to deal with same gender when talking about "girls" issue....
I think I can feel gender by respond most of the time...

Sometimes I consider their civil status, specialy if I opened a discussion that involved parents, and children. That way I can make comments accordingly, but not necessarily cause most users here were intellectually blessed, and most of their responses were acceptable for both married or not. And you're right if you know the gender f a certain user, it will be easy for us to deal with them specialy in responding to their discussions or commenting to their responses. Take Care....

I too accepted frenz without looking at their profiles.. I will only know who they are when they start new discussions or they respond to my discussions ^_^ BEcause for that, i will have to open their profile b4 i can respond.. And since i have opened their profile, i will take a good look on what's in there ^_^
SO from there, i will know their gender, their country, as well as how long they have been in mylot ^_^ hehe

Sometimes other users here are hidding their true identity and that includes their gender, so if that happens and other users addressed them with the wrong gender, they never reacted cause they know it was their fault. Why do you think they do that, and what are they protecting for?.....Happy Halloween and take care...

Haha! Great you have done that, but I have to tell you, sometimes people would base their gender perception of me by my family name which is like a guy's name.
Whenever I have time, what I usually would do is to linger on my friend's profile and would answer each discussion my friend started. By lingering on his or her profile, I basically would have an idea what his or her gender is.

I have never done that, I think I have to linger a bit on my friends profile specialy those that has no gender records. Thanks for some advice, and sorry if I have just answer your response this late, it's because I have been very busy this days. I have just opened a new restaurant branch for the company I'm engage with that's why. Thanks again and take care....

hi omar I think we have all goofed on that one ocassionally
as so many user names and avatars dont show the gender unless']the person makes it pretty clear that he or she in a man or
a woman. I know i still get some responses that show the person
thinks I am a guy when the truthe is I am an elderly woman
instead. That was really an undertaking for you to find all that info on your 300 some friends but I can see how helpful that would be.

[b]hi omar0913!
well before i address the person i always make it sure that i know the gender of the person or for me to avoid making such mistakes the other thing that i do is do not say any gender at all. hahaha! i just use the word you or whatever else that may pertain to the person i am responding to. hahaha! playing safe is better.
happy halloween to you!!

Hello friend! It's realy confusing when users does not have gender ID on their profile nor an avatar that describes their sexes. But youre right we just need to play safely by just addressing them in general. Happy Halloween too and take care always....

Thats alright. It dont bother me if I am called a man or woman. as long as discussion is going on smoothly. Thats the beauty of it. Youre talking, discussion to someone you dont know the gender, the age, where he/she came from. Dont bother on those things. Me, I dont think about it anyway. Happy Mylotting.

I think so. If I remember to look I will check the profile before replying or try and use a gender neutral address. I have noticed that some people do not put anything on their profile at all and that makes it really hard to know.
Making a list of 300 plus friends is huge job though. Like you I just accept friends who ask without always checking their profile. I am no good at denying anyone.

Same as you, before I have never checked their profile, but now they were all listed on my personal notebook, andthe lists comes according to their gender, status in life and their ages. That way responding nor commenting will be easy, also using neutral gender adresses will skip those mistakes safely.....Thanks and Take Care Always....
