Did it hurt?

Some people tell me their tattoo didn't hurt at all, I wonder if they are just trying to act tough? The one I have on my lower back hurt like heck and I cried, it took along time and I didn't think I go stand it anymore but I did and I"m glad. but sometimes people laugh or tell me I'm a wimp??? I know people have different tolerence levels but I can honestly admit I would much rather go through labor again than that. It was a different kind of pain and it WAS painful.

I can't believe that it didn't hurt at all when people say that, I bet they weren't saying that during, lol. I have on on my ankle, a huge one on my calf, and one on my lower back and every one of them hurt like hell. When I was getting the one on my back, the tattoo artist told me that that is the worst place, that's the one that people pass out or throw up the most. I compare it to an exacto knife cutting the image into my skin. But definitely worth it when it's over. I already want another one, ugh, what am I thinkin.

Yes I want another one also, even though it hurt it doesn't last long and it was worth it!

I think a lot of it has to do with the part of your body where you are getting your tattoo done. I have two one of each shoulder blade, only the one hurt but only when parts of the tattoo were being done. I am not going to say the rest of it was completely pain free...it did burn a little, and it was uncomfortable...but after a while it went numb and it did not hurt...it was more like uncomfortable scartching. From what I have heard your lower back is very painful, along with your sides...I have not personally experienced either yet..so when I do I will let you know!

mine honestly really didn't hurt. i know i have a very high tolerance to pain, but even the one at the top of my shoulder didn't bother me.i could feel my collarbone vibrate though. haven't got one on my back yet,but i've heard that is one of the most painful after a side tat.

It really depends on where you get it. As someone else mentioned, the closer the bone is to the surface, the more it hurts. The more meat in the area, the less it hurts. That's just for starters, though. Some people have a lower pain threshold. So what wouldn't really hurt much to some would be agony to others. I got my first tat on my shoulderblade. It didn't really hurt. For the first 10 minutes or so, it felt like someone was rubbing my back and it was sunburned. Then it went numb and I didn't feel it anymore. I have another around my ankle. Let me tell you, that wasn't exactly pleasant. The sides were alright, but when he did the front (along the shin bone) and back around the achilles tendon... HOLY MOTHER OF F***! That hurt.

My first and only one, so far, on my inner arm hurt but not ina painful way. It stung at first then became really anoying, like when you get a sunburn and some one pokes it; hurts at first then gets anoying.

LOL mine was the opposite, it was annoying at first and then hurt, and afterwards for a few hours it felt like it was on fire. That hurt really bad also! Mine I'm glad I got it even though some people tease me that it's my tramp stamp, I like it!

The one on my lower back only hurt in certain areas. Now the one on my chest, hurt like hell. The entire time, it felt like the needle was on my neck! I don't think I would say I'd rather go through labor again than get a tattoo though.

LOL yes not a lot of people would say that, but I honestly can, my labor went quick and didn't hurt as bad as that! When I was getting the left side done it was more sensitive and my boyfriend and mom and had hold on to me because I kept jerking to get away, it was a different sensation compared to the righ side I could feel the needle getting close and would jerk, like when you know someone is going to tickle you and you can't take it!

I think it depends on the persons pain tolerance and where the tattoo is. For me I have three one of them HURT BAD that was the one on my ankle the other two were alright not to bad. I would describe the pain as a bee sting that didn't stop! I think that different people take pain differently so its all in your head weather it hurts or not.

I heard from one of my friends who has a tattoo on his arm, that it's really painful to put on the tattoo, it took him 6 hours to complete the tattoo. Actually he has designed a tattoo for the whole hand, but he couldn't take the pain and just made it half (only on the arm). So I think it's really very painful.

I have a tattoo on my chest. It's a scorpion. I was really scared coz I heard it hurts like hell. Anyways, Im really determined to have one so I did it. When they're starting to trace it...it don't hurt much. It's like something is just poking your skin but once they start to color it...deng! It hurts so much! I didn't bleed though which the tattoo artist says it's amazing as others are really bleeders.

Of course it hurts. It's a dozen needles vibrating into your skin at a gazillion rpm. But I have three and none of them hurt badly enough to make me not want to do it again :) To me, it feels like a slightly worse than minor sunburn or like being scratched by a cat. Other people have related it to the worst thing ever and they'd absolutely never do it again. hehe But, it's all relative. It depends on your threshold, the location of the tattoo, the amount of detail involved and the amount of coloring. I've heard that the top of your foot is horrendous, as is the back of your upper arm (tricep), hip, head... any nervy or bony places pretty much.

The tattoos I had done on my arms didn't hurt at all but the one I had done on the bottom of my back nearly made me cry. The tattoo on my should didn't hurt too much, it felt more like scratching and the tattoo on my leg only hurt when he was getting near the back my leg. It all depends on how much pain you can take and where you get it done as some places in the body have more nerve endings than others. I thought my first tattoo was really going to hurt but I think that was because I'd never had one before and after a few minutes, I was fine. I sat there talking to the guy doing the tattoo. If I know a tattoo is going to hurt, I take a book with me or meditate while Terry (my cool tattoo guy) does the tattoo. It really helps because you are taking your mind off of the fact your getting a tattoo done. Sometimes I've ended up quite numb so I don't feel much after a while but I felt every pin going into my skin when I had my roses on my back, even Terry noticed that I was a lot quieter than normal. The healing part is sometimes the most annoying because your skin will be quite tender and if you roll over in the middle of the night, it can really hurt. When my tattoos are healing, I wash it 5 times a day with soupy water and 3 times a day with the cream Terry gives me and they never scap over.
