Today's trivia: You eat eight spiders every year in your sleep. True?

Nope, says MythBusters. There's no evidence that spiders secretly crawl into our mouths while we're sleeping. Even if you were lying perfectly still, your breathing would scare a spider off, so it's unlikely to hang out around your mouth. Alas, the bad news: You probably consume more spiders when you are awake -- in your food. Here's why: The Food and Drug Administration guidelines allow a certain level of whole insects or parts in some food products, such as those containing fruits or vegetables. Yum.

Ew. Even if we dont eat live spiders, it's still gross knowing that we have insects mixed in our food.
Anyway, i seem to be posting a lot about spiders. Is it just me or did you notice it too? Hehehehehe.
Anyway, opinions and ideas, people. You know you're all very welcome here.

Oh thank god that is a myth... heh. Well I read that also, a lot of the pink coloring in our food, ie. pink colored soda is made up of little crushed bugs. And once, my cousins brought corn they picked.. or bought from the farm or something fresh, and when they opened it, I saw bugs and everything inside. I couldn't stand to eat corn for a while. It was absolutely disgusting lol..

i dont know if that is true or not, but I hear that the bugs in the corn not only partially give it the good savory taste it has, but it is also what protects it from harmful bugs. and animals.

I heard about this too. crazy stuff. Another think I learned while in school always stuck with me as well. In math my teacher assigned us a problem regarding the concentration of pollutants in drinking water. My teacher stated that the function of human excrement in drinking water is related to population of the city upstream. And we had to determine whether there was an acceptable level of feces in the drinking water. Apparently there is an acceptable level!! Wow Crazy things we consume right?

Not to gross you out or anything, but also think about those who live near a resevoir( like me) who go to the restroom, water goes through a so called " filter" then is re-given to us as drinking water? Great we are drinking our urine!

I don't think we eat 8 spiders, but certainly we do eat up many more insects in our food. Thre are so many tiny insects flying around that quite often some can miss your eyes and get into yur food unnoticed. They are so tiny that they do nt affect the taste so yo harldy notice it too. it really does not matter does it?

Phew!!!! it's a myth. Still a bit concerning though that you probably eat more in your food. I know my dad when he was younger went to take a sip out of a canned soft drink only to see a leg of a spider crawl out from inside. It put him off and it's nearly put me off drinking out of cans.

ya i've heard about the little amounts of nasty things that are allowed in certain foods and its disgusting!
since you've brought up Mythbusters, i don't agree with alot of things they say or "proove". it depends on some of their experiments and how they construct them to see how accurate they can make a result.
i dont know if its true about the spiders, but i have heard about it before, ive heard it was about 8 spiders a year while you sleep, but who knows!!

haha! You are probably right, we eat stuff when we dont know what might be in it. For example, which I am still laughing about even tonight, but my brother wen to go get a cup of coffeee that he brewed, and he actually drunk a bug: rofl! it was classic! But anyway, yea it is a natural insticnt I guess when we see food to eat, cause when we eat we dont think about what is in it, like - eats a spaghetti- mm yummy has peperika, and this and that...- no we dont do that, we just eat and go yuummy! Well...I guess if you actually tasted toe bugs you may go " YUCK!" but oh well life goes on:P
