Today I ride on a bust that was very congested. Few kilometers away from the city it stopped to pick up 2passengers--both elderly. I was surprise how come the bus stopped when there was no more vacant seat inside. But I was amazed when I saw nthis guy seated 4 seats from me who stood up and offered his seat to the old woman, the old man remained standing though. There were still plenty of men passengers inside the but but nobody offered another seat to the poor man. What would you do if you're one of these men passengers? Would you offer your seat to the old man even if you still have a very long way to go? Thanks for sharing.

even if i am not a man, i would still give my seat to the elderly. this is very common in the Philippines, as respect to elderly, people on the buses offer their seats to them. and i know the first seats on the bus are intended for disabled and elderly.

Yeah! Most men in public transports pretend not seeing an elderly standing so that they cannot offer their seat to hin/her. Good for you if you would. Thanks for the response and happy posting!

It doesn't happen in Beijing of China. Everyone will gave the seats to the olds. If you don't believe, you just visit there and have a look. Once upon a time, I travelled to Beijing city seeing a man from another town who was not willing to give his seat to a old man. The conductor walked to him saying that " Please give your seat to the old man" until he stood up after all. Believe it or not, all people will invite the sick, weak, old and disabled the seats in that city. On the other hand, in some other city of china, like Wuhan, few people will do that. But the students are ball of fire, lots of them have good manners. Thus, near the university, or some other school, some old people will be lucky enough to have seats. I just say what I have seen. If some wuhan in China people are unhappy, I am really sorry. It is the bare truth, isn't it?

It a remarkable gesture from the guy i must confess and it also reflects modesty whic is very rare in this our time and age whereby a lot of youths only tend to act in a selfish manner and lack regard and respect for the elderly... i will learn from this and take a cue from what you witnessed.

Yes,the real man still exists. This I will always do.My Parents instilled in me the truth that I am a man.If you knew me personally you will know that I am not an ordinary man.I pride myself that I am the original man of steel.I am a protector of children, old people and women. The funny part of this, is I dont look the part.

That is really nice, and I'd like to think that there are still a few nice men spaced out in the world! And I hope I am lucky enough to meet one :) I can't say what i would do if I was a man :p lol. But as a female, I would probably give my seat to the man if I was there. Especially if I was sitting next to the first man to give his seat, I'm sure the couple would like to sit near eachother. I kind of doubt the man would leave the woman alone on the bus to take a seat that would be farther away, whether one was offered or not.

Id like to say I would but alot of the time it really doesnt register in my head. But when I have the chance I try to be as courteous as I can. There are still people out there who do that. My boyfriend for one is one of them. He always holds the door open for people and does what ever kind thing thing he can possibly do for anyone else. So there is still hope out there!

Hi... That's a nice story. First, the bus should not stop eventhough there are no seats. That's how it works in my country.. There's so many people standing in the bus you get a heart attack when you see it. But back to talking about chilvary, yes, there are people who gives old people or pregnant people seats in public transportation in my country. As for me, I would have given the couple my seat as well.. And just stand on the bus. What's the harm? I'm young. And when I grow old, and if I would have to take public transport, would I be able to stand the whole ride on a bus? I doubt so. Do unto others what you would want them to do unto yourself. I'm a person who believes in karma.. :)

Hi there friend. I think that 80% of the time (or perhaps more) i would be that man that let's him sit down. I don't normally am keen on sitting down and i would only keep my place if i am sick or if i am very very tired, otherwise i would give my place to an older man if there aren't any empty seats.

Well,I would definitely be offering my seat to the old man.Probably it is the Filipino trait that still lingers in my vein or instilled by my parents to give respect for the elderly. And if those two elderly were my parents,I would be glad to know that somebody gave them the convenience.

I think there some men who would give up their seats for a older person, but the majority wouln't. In Singapore though the trains and buses have certain seats reserved for older persons, pregnant mothers or those who with a handicap, so if someone is sitting in on of these seats, as there is a sign behind the seats saying you are to give this seat to a needed person, automaticlly people get up and give the seat to such needed people. I think this is a very good scheme.

in our world today, with such advancements and modernity, our culture is also affected. it's hard to find men like that, who's living chivalrous deeds. as mentioned by don quijote, "the imposible dream". it's rare in our time today that you will find someone doing such act. i'm glad there are few.
