"Allow"? You have that power? If I were your friend, unlikely, I know, and you told me I was not allowed to smoke, I'd tell you to go and do something anatomically impossible with yourself. If the woman (or boy) you want to be with smokes, you can ask them not to, but you can't tell them not to, and if they won't stop, then you will need to find another girlfriend/boyfriend. Or put up with it.

If you do not allow your friends to smoke, your friends will leave you soon. No one can really make a person stop smoking, except the person him/herself.I was a chain smoker. Whenai ws getting married, my woudl be wife told me "I like men smoking," After marrige, she said, "I don't like my husband smoking." I continued smoking for over 15 years after that. I did not listen to any advice. I stopped smoking all of a sudden when the inner urge told me to stop.

Smoking is a very bad habit...BUT there is no way anyone especially someone I'm dating is going to tell me what I can and can't do...I'm a grown woman and decide for myself..

Well I have recently given up for the second time but no one but me tells me I can or cannot smoke. I would never tell my partner he had to give up smoking as it is not my concern. Yes I care about his health and I try and encourage him to give up but I do not nag him about it.
Only he can give up. No one can force it on him. You will not have many friends if you start giving them orders.

No, I wouldn't date anyone who smokes. it's really a hard habit to break and it will just hurt our relationship in the future. I am definitely against this and while I wish that all my friends would stop smoking already, I respect their choice. I do remind them that it's bad.

I haven't tried smoking in my life. Gladly, only a few of my friends do smoke. But what's okay in our end is that we respect each other. If they smoke, they go out. I don't have friends who are chain smokers, mine are just occasional. If they want to smoke, I can't ask them to stop. They can smoke as long as we are not together because I don't like to be a second-hand smoker as I will be more prone to lung disease than the actual smokers. It is good to remind our friends to try to quit smoking because we all know what the result will be if they continue doing so.

I really don't think it is my place to tell my boyfriend what he can and can not do and I surely would not tolerate him telling me what to do. I may not like it but he is an adult and I guess if I don't like something he does bad enough then i have the choice not to be with him. The only people I set rules for are my children. Adults usually don't need another mom or dad in their lives. I don't anyway.

I agree that it is a bad habit to smoke. It is very good that you do not allow your friends to smoke. Are they mad at you? Do they hide from you when they feel like smoking?

What other people do is not my business. I don't like to control other people's life.
