Halloween Nightmare!!

I just came across this on the News and can't believe that the world has come to this. A couple and their 3 children attended a Halloween event and decided to stop at a few houses for trick or treating on the way home. When they knocked on the door of one house, the door opened and someone opened fire on them. One child was killed and the father and other sons were taken to the hospital. They haven't come up with a reason yet. Here's the link: http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Youngster_Shot_Dead_Trick_Or_Treating_on_Halloween_27911.html What could someone be thinking to open fire on trick or treaters? Will situations like this encourage you not to send your children out trick or treating? ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

My kids don't go trick or treating at peoples houses. We take them to Walmart (my fiance works there and I used to, so we know everyone). This year we also went to the mall. My girls are too young to know the difference. They didn't get much this year but who really needs all that sugar anyway?...

Amen to that! We have decided no more door to door. We went to Wal-Mart this year... I was surprised to know that it is just as much fun! My son made out with a lot of candy & even had his face painted.... We don't need door to door anymore....

It's too dangerous to do door to door and it's too cold for the little ones these days.

This is really sad, this is why I didn't take my children trick or treating I took them to Marine world, and Disneyland and to their school. What makes a person want to shoot anyone because they knocked on the door and did the others in the house know what he was going to do?

It will not be long and they will just not have it at all. Our town already throws a big halloween part at the same time as trick or treat. Most kids go right in the neighborhood and then go there. They give away good candy and prizes.

You know, if we were allowed to put people in mental institutions once again a lot of this agony could be prevented. The homeless wouldn't crowd the streets and people like that person who shot the trick or treaters would be in an institution getting therapy instead of shooting people. Yeah, I know that's not the answer to all problems and maybe that person didn't show any prior signs of mental illness, but if we'd bring back the ability to commit people for their own good we would spare a lot of people, especially the patients, a lot of sadness.

I read that report last night. That is a sad, tragic outcome to what should have been a fun time. I don't know the situation nor the part of town they were in. But it seemed to be a nice place, or why would the family be stopping on their way home? Apparently the person shooting had a problem with people coming to their door. Hopefully, though, he will be charged with murder since this shooting was uncalled for. It will make you weary of knocking on anyone's door anymore. It could stop trick or treating altogether. Perhaps the cities and towns or churches need to engage the children and families in other things on Halloween instead of going door to door.We live out in the country and not to many young in our area, so we have never been hit with people at our house. I don't even buy candy at all.

I know a local church in my town has this huge, and I mean huge, carnival for the kids to attend in their costumes. They plan the event all year long, get donations from all over and let anyone come. And its all FREE. Each year they have over 3000 people come thru for food, fun, games, and trick or treating.

I have no idea what the homeowner was thinking when he opened fire. Who knows, maybe he had been threatened, maybe he was sick of kids ruining his decorations. Not that it justifies shooting first, asking questions later, but there is definitely more to this story. That poor family. Just trying to have some innocent fun and this happens. My prayers with them. I do want to hearl all the details of this story. Something more is going on here.

When I was a child, we used to get homemade treats when we went trick and treating, and my mother made some nut squares that the kids like. That was the only time, besides Christmas that we had anything with nuts in it. Some of the ladies made candied apples, that is until some sicko decided to put pins into apples and latter spike them with LSD. Then now all we get are the store bought candies, and now the parents drive the children in their vans and wait at the end of the block. It is getting worse. There are some people who actually hate children and they are increasing more and more.

It has gotten to the point that communities need to come together, especially when involving children. If it is situation where kids are going door to door, then we need to get signatures that they will be safe going there. It is sad. We did not have to do that years ago.

That is just horrendous! I can't imagine what causes people to do such insane and horrific things! It's bad enough that a parent must carefully check all the candy that their child gets to make sure it isn't poisoned or something, now they have to fear someone just outright murdering them! I think it a shame that I may have to start denying my children simple pleasures such as trick or treating for fear that some insane lunatic might kill them! What is wrong with some people?!

And there is the very reason I do not like my children going trick or treating and the very reason I will never open my door to them either. That is awful, it is so sad and that poor family will forever go through the "if only". This year I made a fun treasure hunt up for my children because they were not too bothered about going trick or treating and I dont like it and that is what I shall continue to do every year.

What has the world come to? Less and less people trick-or-treat each year because of fear that something like this will happen. Soon I imagine that everyone will stop altogether and the tradition will die. The world is definitely changing and sadly I fear for the worse. :(

This world is a scary place. This is a tragic happening and unfortunately, it just proves people are capable of anything. We have an area in our town, near the Civic Center, called Safety Town. Most of the kids in our town go there for trick or treating. It is decorated for every holiday and extremely fun for the kids and their parents. Most importantly, it is SAFE! Most of the kids that come to our door are neighbors and friends. They know it is safe to trick or treat. It was a beautiful day in Chicago on Halloween. I am glad the kids were able to get out and have some fun. My heart goes out to this family. It is something they will never get over. PEACE

Oh my, that is just awful. I don't understand it either. People have so much stress in their lives and I guess some people can't handle it. This guy is sick. In a more happy light, I moved to another city and into a house about 5 months ago. So this year was our first halloween here and we didn't know what to expect. I asked our neighbour about last year and she said that she only got a few kids last year. I was watching the neighbourhood for the last month and there are a lot of kids that live around here. Kids from babies to about 16 years old. So I thought that maybe more families moved into the neighbourhood since last year and there would be a lot of kids out trick or treating so we went and bought a lot of stuff and made up 50 bags. We even bought lights of pumpkins and lined them up along our sidewalk so the kids would know that we were giving out candy. Well, we only got 5 kids. And all 5 kids were just babies being carried by their mothers. We didn't get one kid that was older than 1 years old. So are the kids just not going out anymore? Like, where were all the kids I seen in the last month that live around here? I was so dissapointed that I took all of the candy we had to the children's hospital around 9 pm. The nurses were very grateful as the kids would be so happy, at least the ones that could eat candy. We also had pencils and erasers and pencil sharpeners in the bags we had made up so that was good. Alrighty then, talk to you later, your friend, chris.

It is sad what happened to that child,he did not deserve that. If someone does not want to be bothered with trick or treaters, they should just not open their doors. Unfortunately, such as this has been happening for years. You always expect to hear something tragic happening on Halloween. I had a little incident last night myself, I posted a discussion last night after it happened. I think since Halloween really has not much of a meaning that I know of, it should be banned, it is used by some as a way to commit crime.

Oh my god this is crazy... why would someone do that? We don't have trick or treat here where I am, but as far as I understand it, it's something similar to Christmas caroling. It's supposed to foster a spirit of generosity and some fun. I totally condemn that gunman!

I think with the way things are going on now a day's. We will have no hoildays. And, the world, like I said before is,"Going to the crapper fast." This year I just took the kids to one good haunted house. And, I was worried but I did let them go with a large group with friends to a few houses. Next year, I am going to do the same as when they where little. I am just going to take them to the center of town where the main stores give out candy and show a nice show. Then, we will go home and wath spooky movies togather. A friend of mine just has a party every year for the families. Candy, cookies and cakes with music. And, normal foods too. Just people getting together for a nice family party. The kids play games and the adults talk and visit. I roasted marshmellows and we all dress-up.
