how do you react when you are asked of your age?

age issues are quite sensitive for some people especially for women. people tend to find it insulting and offensive being asked of their real age thought some doesn't mind being asked to. now my question is how would you react whenever you are asked of your age? and when asked do you usually tell your real age. does the male gender find it insulting as well or they do not mind it at all?
please share.

I always tell the truth about my age. I am 41 and a woman. I will be 42 next month. I don't see the point in lying about your age. Sure, I have some gray hair and some wrinkles here and there but at this age, who doesn't? I have colored my hair for years, even before I got any gray hair. I might have cosmetic surgery done on my face later on and I might not. It just depends on how I age and if I feel like it. But I don't think I will ever lie about how old I am.

hello kenchiprincess,
I don't see any reason at all why some people are not telling their real age. As for me, It doesn't matter at all. If they are asking me what is my age, I'm telling them my real age without hesitation. In fact I'm so proud of my age. At least I'm already happily married and have three kids. So, have nothing to hide. Must be proud and thankful for reaching my age.

hi, great to hear that. well not everyone view it the way you do. as comment here by another mylotter it could be brought about by the persons current status in life that they are afraid telling their real age. let us just respect them. have fun!!!

I'm 44. Why shouldn't I tell the truth? Age is not a shameful thing! What shame is there in the truth? I didn't steal it, or do something illegal to get it! It's simply a fact! I think it's silly that people want to pretend to be younger. Why?

I am only 28 so I don't feel I have any reason to lie about my age. I don't feel offended if someone asks. Well, it depends on why they are asking. I mean, it's nice to look young but I would be offended if someone thought I looked like a child and asked for ID in a shop or something. Then I might be offended. Or if they were asking because they thought I was really old or something. But if people are asking just because they want to know then I don't mind. I always tell the truth. I used to tell the odd fib when I was 16 or 17 when I'd say I was 15 so I could still get half fare on the buses and I occasionally tell people that my 3 year old is only 2 since more and more places make charges from age 3 rather than the previous age 5. But I never really have any need to lie about my own age.

hi there, i just like you don't get offended being asked of my age especially if it is really relevant to ask that specific question. Lying about our age doesn't make sense at all anyways we will all grow old. LOL. have a great day!!!

Now that I am growing older I am getting wary of my age. Usually it is associated with a woman thing, I am trying to hide my age. heheh I look younger than my age. I don't want to grow older. I don't find it insulting but I find it a bit invasive.© ronaldinu 2008

If someone asks me my age in rl I would find that insultig. I would probably just say if you cant tell its none of your business. The internet is different because we are not face to face. I would probably just say over 40 so they could see I am a mature lady.

Uhm, I usually dont mind but sometimes it isnt fun. Im 18 and I find the older I get the younger I look. When I was fourteen, people thought I looked 18. Now that I am 18, alot of people seem to think I am 17 or 16. Right now it doesnt bug me because its hard to tell my age. But I dont want to be id'd and carded when im 30 or anything, thts when it would really start to get annoying.

I don't find it insulting, and I tell my real age. I am no good at guessing other peoples ages, but have found that the few that I have asked was a little insulted by my asking. I am not sure why-they looked really great for their age.

I'm 22 (but just 2 weeks away from turning 23!!!) but I look 16 (I've even been mistaken for being as young as 12!!!) so I don't mind at all when I'm asked my age. I like to surprise people by how old I actually am. And since I'm so young, I don't really think of it as being rude. I'm sure in 10 or 20 years I'll feel differently about it being rude.
I do think it's rude to ask someone their age, so I don't ever do it. But I personally don't mind if someone asks my age.

ha ha ha a typical female reaction to age. Then we talk of equality of sexes. I doubt if a man ever tries to hide his age either in telling it or by use of make up. I proudly announce that i am 53 and don't at all feel embarassed by it. Why should I feel embarassed by my age? I have growngracefully and lived my life fully. I am happy at my age and love to be my age. i believe that life begins at 50 now a days so idonot mind beign inteh 50s because I feel as virile and active as thoug i were in the 20s or 30s.

naah..i dont mind it at all. n wat is the necessary to hide our age ? specially in this online world, the chance to meet each other for real is small, no need to be fake. my age is 25 years old. if some1 ask it, i will answer it honestly.
bout guys, hmm..not sure coz im not a guy lol. but based on my experiences, my guys friends dont mind it at all if they're being asked bout their age. usually its the woman who have that problem lol but not me lol.
how bout u kenchiprincess ? ur a female (princess) lol, will u get offended if some1 asking u bout ur age ?

thanks for your post. just like you i am not that sensitive when it comes to age i am 32 and when people ask i would usually tell the right thing. it could be because people would usually not believe that i am 32 for i look way younger than my age as most would say but then again why hide. right? but again in your life you meet nosy people who would just ask questions not relevant to the topic out of nosiness. will you really willingly give your age to someone you haven't met before and you just bump on the street? have a great day!!!

People always ask my age, especially perverted older guys-they want to see if I am a minor or not. In those cases I am offended and I just don't tell them anything or sometimes I say not old enough. When regular non-perverted people ask my age I always just tell them the truth. Most people think that I am younger than I am, though a few think I am way older. when I was 16 someone asked me to buy them smokes, but I think that he was actually older than me. lol.

hi
I really get surprised if anyone asks my age. I mean why one should ask? If the question pops out all on a sudden and out of context, I generally try to avoid a direct answer.
But whenever it is necessary or relevent, I don't mind to reveal my real age. Why should feel uncomfortable? In my profile page, you'll find my real age. And I don't bother to mention the correct age.
My hubby too not reluctent to tell his actual age if necessary. In fact, I think men never hesitate to tell their actual age.
Some women do feel it offensive, but I don't feel so if it's not irrelevent. If someone starts a topic like "Hey Ladies, Tell me your actual age". Such a case, to me, is irrelevent and i don't respond at all.

just like you i really don't mind telling people my real age as long as it is needed and relevant but if being asked out of the blue and in an irrelevant manner i would think twice, thinking what and why such topic is asked. thanks for the post!!!

I stopped counting three years ago
For me it's okay. I seldom found to be older than my age, it is because I look younger than my age and it is a compliment to hear from other people who asked. I haven't lied about my age because for me, it really doesn't matter. If you feel young and healthy, I think that is more important. I really don't mind when someone asks because age, it's all in the mind...

I actually would joke on my age when I am asked. Age is one of the most confidential fact about a person. A person has the right not to tell his/her age to anybody.

But why? What does it matter that people know your age?
I agree you have the right not to tell. I just don't understand why you wouldn't.

I normally give me right age.I think people take issue with this question because they are uncertain of the remarks that may follow. This is because many persons are unsure whether they look older or younger than their age .If they know they look younger than their age ,they normally have no problem giving it especially when they know they will get complimented on looking younger than their age.
Another reason people sometimes take offence is if they dont feel comfortable with the achievements they have made during their life.Once again if they have made considerable progress during a short lifespan then they willingly give their age but if they have not then they may be reluctant.Again its the compliments taht detrmine outcome.
Finally if they are in a social activity that is normally associated with an age group younger than they are for example a party ,they may shave a few years off their age to fit in

You make some good points there.
Most people do think I look younger, so that might be why I don't mind telling people my real age.
