if a close family or friend died from lung cancer,would you stop smoking?

maybe you start smoking as a teenager,and you have been smoking for years, would someone dying convince you to stop smoking

I have a close family friend who has undergone surgery for mouth cancer as he used to eat gutka even then his other family members have not stopped eating gutka, so some addictions are so bad you need a strong will power to stop you.
