This is an area where I have been fortunate enough to have experience and success. I am now going to share what I know and hope that these simple rules will help you.
Number 1. There is no free ride, easy route or miracle weight loss plan. Accept this. The quicker you do the quicker you can knuckle down to actually losing that fat.
Number 2. How much you eat defines your size and the exercise you do defines your shape.
You see you can eat 5,000 calories a day but if you are burning them all up with exercise then you will likely be in great shape with lots of muscle. However if you do no exercise then 3,500 calories a day will leave you looking like a potato.
Your fat and your muscle use up different amounts of calories just to maintain them. In fact the difference is around 15% more for the muscle. Why is this important? Well when you start to lose weight your body will naturally get rid of whatever is buring the most calories that is not of any use. So if you do no exercise then you will start to she muscle and eventually you will be a slimmer verson of what you are now... a fatty.
So you do exercise to do two things. Firstly to ensure the body sheds fat only and two to put un more muscle which increases the amount of energy required to maintain it and therefore burns more calories keeping you in good shape.
So how many calories should you have per day? Ladies is 1,400 +/- 50 per day and gentlemen is 1,800 +/-50 per day. Don't go lower than this as the body will think it is in a famine and will try to keep hold of the fat stores and get rid of the costly muscle stores.
This will steadily decrease your weight. The exercise you do will ensure it is fat lost and so you will see an improvement over time in how you look and how you feel and you will be in far better shape.
Remember it took you a while to put the fat on and it will take you a hile to get rid of it. However November 2009, 2010 etc will come round and how you look then will depend on why you do now.
Proof of the pudding? Well I lost 34 lbs in 14 weeks following that and in the process I actually put on muscle mass.
If you would like help on what exercise to do etc let me know and I will be glad to help.

If I had known actually how easy it is I would have done it ages ago. Losing the weight really is just having the calorie deficit. The gym did the rest and 9 months later I am so happy I did it. Go for it!

It all boils down to one thing, really... Discipline, discipline, discipline. On this, I fail miserably. :) Just another bite of that chocolate, puhleaze!? ;)

This is true... you need to be disciplined and it can be a bit of a pain. However it really is how much you want it. People have to be happy with themselves and if they are then good on them. If they are not then they have to decide whether they are unhappy enough to make the change... I did. I was sick of being a Kitkat Chunky in the mirror and so knuckled down to hard work and a calorie deficit. My God though it worked and I am more than happy with it.
Each to their own mind. It has to be a personal thing.
