Have you ever won a lottery

Lotto 649 - Canada Lotto 649
Canada
November 2, 2008 11:50am CST
Where I live (Canada) we had a lotto 649 draw for Saturday November 01 2008 and it was worth if you can believe, $40,441,465.00. It was won by only one winner in Ontario. My husband had asked me different times to buy a lotto ticket when I was out and I always forgot to. Well yesterday I finally remembered for yesterdays draw and of course I didn't even come close. I only had one number right. I want to ask all of you do you think the lotteries are fixed or in other words dishonest? I'm no gambler so your answer certainly won't offend me.

My boyfriend plays the lotto all the time. I dont think they are fixed because either way the government will get their share in taxes. My boyfriend and I always talk about the "what ifs" in winning the lotto. What we would do with the money. First and most important is pay off our debt we're in. Then get a car for me, a house instead of an apartment, money for college for our children, help family members out, hmmmm go on a vacation to a place we always wanted to visit (there is too many to list, lol) ahhh the fantasy of it all is great, but now it's time for me to wake up again lol, back to my reality.... let me know if you ever get lucky... Good luck :-)

We only occasionally buy a lottery ticket. They say the odds of getting struck by lightening are better than your winning the lottery. We did win $40 one time. My hubby was so excited that we had 4 numbers that he got me out of the shower to look at them. I explained that we did win but we couldn't call the office the following day to sing "Take This Job and Shove It!"

OMG that's too funny but you're right not a Johnny Paycheck moment hehehe. Sure reminds me of the time I had a scratch ticket and my brother was visiting and he and my husband were having a coffee at the kitchen table. I sat on the couch and scratched my ticket. I let out a blood curdling scretch when I realized I had won. They both came on the run to see what I won, I was so excited and I told them 25.00. Well my brother just wiped his forehead and said, OMG I sure hope she's not left alone if she ever won the big one!

I will buy a scratch off ticket every now and then. Most of the time I loose of course. Hopefully someday I will win some big bucks, I deserve it, hehe. I rarely play the lotto where they win the big bucks. If I start that then I will get in the habit of it, I will think that if I don't get a ticket, thats when my number will be called. So I don't even pay attention to the numbers. I have a friend who buys the tickets, when he wins, he is going to give me lots of money. I have never won much before, $50 two times and $20 a few times. A couple of times a dollar or two, but thats about it. My neighbor won $5000 on a $5 scratch off ticket, that was a good win.

Even if they weren't fixed or dishonest, I would never participate in a lottery, so obviously I have never won, given that I have never purchased a ticket. Most people that I have heard of winning a lottery end up worse afterwards than before their win. Maybe those are just the ones we hear about, but in case y ou are interested, here is an interesting article about 8 people who started out as lottery winners but ended up as losers: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/SaveMoney/8lotteryWinnersWhoLostTheirMillions.aspx Enjoy!

Isn't it the truth I think we could all use some extra $$$$$ However I really don't think any one person needs to win over forty million.

First of all the lotteries do not have to be fixed, they get the 40% off the top and only give back 60% in prizes. This amounts to millions of dollars a year. There was a scandal that the retailers were switching winning tickets on unsuspecting winners for a long time and the lottery corporations did nothing about it. This was flagrantly dishonest but I don't think anyone was fired or went to jail. I still play but now have to check my own tickets due to the crooks in the system. Not fixed, but where there is money changing hands there always seems to be someone trying to scam.

NO, I do not think they are fixed, it is just that the odds are so terribly against me, I would never win, if I played. I do not play. Hubby says if he buys a ticket he just considers it a donation.

Yes hubby is so right it's a donation. I hope he hits it rich one day. I wish that for anyone who needs it especially, but I'd be so excited if one of my myLot friends could say they won.

I don't think that the lotteries are fixed, but you have to look at the odds of anyone actually winning. The only amount of money I ever won was from iwon.com. I won $1000!! I was so excited. I actually didnt' even believe it when they called to tell me. I thought it was some of my friends playing a joke on me.

I don't think they are fixed or dishonest. The government doesn't care who wins, they will get their share in taxes I have won a few dollars here and there through the years. Nothing big though, darn it. I hardly ever buy tickets any more. We used to do it at my workplace, we'd pool everyones money together, hoping we'd get rich and not have to work any more

Yes we did that at my work place also. I may be out to lunch but I've always said your best chance to win is not when its as high as forty million like this last one.

I know they are not fixed because we had a 10 million dollar winner in our town.We have had tons of scratch ticket winners here as well.A young girl in her twenties just won 30,000 on a scratch ticket.I am not a gambler but i do like to get the 649.I usually win 10 dollars on it,so i just get the next nights draw with it.My son sold the 10 million dollar winning ticket when he was working at a town garage.

I do not think they are dishonest or anything. I have played it several times and still have not won. Over here in the USA, I am in North Carolina it is called the Powerball, sometimes it gets up to $120,000,000 or more if nobody wins in a certain amount of time but if someone wims and claim the money it goes back down to $15,000,000. I just be glad when my day comes to win that amount of money.

Yes, I am happy to say that I have won a few times on our Australian Lottery, but unfortunately, not a big one. My best win was a few years ago - just over $1,400! I've won a few $40 and $20 here and there, but I feel the chances of winning big time are very low. However, someone has to win - it's just pure luck.

In NY State all the big winners are from Albany and below down to NY City and Long Island. We win 500 dollars a week for life scratch offs and consolation lottery prizes, but the real winners are down there. Now I know that 3/4 of the population or maybe even 7/8 is down below us, but doesn't that mean that someone up here should win 1/4 to 1/8 of the time? Never heard of a multi-million dollar lottery person winning up here. Most people don't even waste their time on buying one any more. We stick to scratch off tickets. Which now means that if they are legit, we'll never know because fewer and fewer people buy them up here. So now it's probably 1/100 for our chances now.

I have never won any lottery. It's perfect if I have won the 1st prize of the lottery, I can use the amount to buy a lot of things. But for me, to win lottery is like dreaming.

I don't think lotteries can be fixed,I don't see how it can be.If they were, they would need to sell the winning ticket to a certain person, well I hope lotteries are not fixed. I buy lottery tickets time to time, but I have never won more than 100 rupees.I live in Sri Lanka.I would definitely like to win a couple more cash, well who wouldn't..hehe..

I have never been lucky with lotteries either! The closest was when I won Rs.500/- when I was in Sri Lanka and that was peanuts.
