Why do we say cats have nine lives?

Cat's don't really have nine lives. Yet, we say that they do because they are able to survive so many dangerous situations. Cats are able to react quickly because they can see, hear, smell and sense all that is around them so well. For instance, their ears can hear sounds that people can't hear. their powerful legs and flexible bodies allow them to move very fast and jump away from harm. They are also able to land on all four feet! Their ability to react so fast to danger is what gives cats 'nine lives.'

yes, but sometimes cats seem to lack the common sense of not crossing a busy highway. ive seen numerous occasions in which the cat's corpse is splattered across the highway and even on the street. poor cats
