This weekend i traveled to my grandparents home and i took my dog with me. I know already she doesnt like it when i go away and leave her with my parents...i get the cold shoulder for a few days when i come home.
I just didn't realize how much of a SUCK she would be at grandmas. Anytime i went out the door she ran to the window to watch me go. My grandma said that she also would whimper as i left then she would curl up by the door to wait for me. There were only three times i left without her. Once to go to the movies, Once to go shopping with grandma and once to go to chapters. Each time when i got back she was at the door and was so very very excited to see me.
This morning packing to go home she was bound and determined to be with me every step of the way she wasn't gonna let me leave her behind.(I've only left her with anyone other than my mom once and that was on our boat trip this summer) Everytime i took a bag to the car she would follow and hop in. She quit following as soon as i packed up her dishes, food and toys. It was almost like she was satisfied that i wasn't going to be leaving her behind.
Even after getting home tonight she has made sure shes been with in about 3 feet of me unless i put her outside to pee. If i get up and go to another room she follows and lays back down.
Do your dogs wait for you when you leave? Do they get upset if you leave them to go on holidays? Do they make sure you are within sight after going on a trip?

I am glad that you had a lovely time visiting your grandparents. Every dog has different behavior when their owner goes on holiday whether they go with them, are cared for my a neighbor or put in kennels. I have two miniature poodles and this summer I took them on a camping trip for a few days. They looked sad to see me packing and were both delighted when I took them with me. I love to travel overseas and my last trip was two weeks in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. My mum fed them and walked them in the morning and a professional dog carer fed them in the late afternoon or evening and then took them for a walk. They were so sad and miserable for duration on my trip. When I got home they followed me around and were upset when I went out of sight. At the moment with 5th November approaching there are fireworks going off every evening in our local neighborhood and my dogs are terrified. I take them for their last walk of the day just before dark. Your dog sounds lovely and intelligent.

That is so sweet and we can understand why dogs are called mans bestfriend, isn't it? I've had a dog whom I was really attached to, who also loved to stay with me. He used to be ecstatic when I came back from work -barking non stop and jumping on me for joy. It was a wonderful feeling to know that someone loves me so much. And when I used to go on trips he knew as whenever he sees a bulky bag, he knows that we are going out for a while. So he mopes around the house and sniffes the bag and looks at me in his sad eyes as if to say please dont go and leave me alone.

My cats do very much the same. They get all clingy if I go away and leave them. They want to make sure I will always come back and that they can go in and out at will.

I love my dog Bobsy same with my gf. She's our baby in the house. When I go to work she follows me at the door I just tell her stay with Mommy and take care of Mommy while I do go to work. When me and my fiancee goes out on a date she will wait for us at the door. When she sees us God she will jump on us and kiss us. We usually bring food for bobsy when we go out. We already have plans to bring her with us we also think of Bobsy when were not at home. We are planning to go out of town next year with Bobsy with us. When were not at home she's kind a naughty but when we are with Bobsy she's behave. Have a nice morning!

I have a little 3 yr old Shih Tzu (Max). I got him at the shelter when he was about 3 months old. Anyway, whenever I am getting ready for work he knows I am leaving and starts the little sad eye thing. Every room I go to he is on my heels, he lays down by me and whenever I get up to go to another room he is right behind me, and this goes on and on. When I put on my coat he is so sad that it hurts my heart to leave him. But I have to go to work. Even when I'm not going anywhere he makes sure he knows where I am at all times. I put a video camera up one time to see what he does when I am gone, and most of the day he was curled up by the door in a little ball waiting for me. I got him a cat for company, and he's ok with her but he makes sure she knows that I was his first and hers second. I also leave Animal Planet on the TV when I am gone. We live alone so I am "it" for these little guys. It feels so good to be so loved. I am actually going to school for a job that I can do at home so I don't have to leave him as much. Can you believe how far we would go for the ones that love us unconditionally. I do try to take him with me when I can and in the Spring and Summer he loves to go to the doggie park. I love him.
