first, you need to pick a topic that you are wanting to write your book about and then you have to do a ton of research. my advice is to go to your local library and get some books out on book writing and go from there. also, there are excellent websites on the net for budding writers. best of luck.

If it is your hope to be a published author, then you must do your homework before just jumping in.
1. You need to decide what type of book you will write: autobiography, fiction, non-fiction, horror, romance, etc...
2. Decide on a main storyline and any underlying storylines. Write them out in detail outlining what you want to convey to reader's.
3. Rough draft a beginning, middle, and end to the story. This is so you will have a good idea of your progress and how to transition from one part of the book to another.
4. Characters (all of them) with as many details as you want them to have as far as personality and such.
5. Detail, detail, detail....If you are gonna write related to a specific location then you need to know some landmarks, important people, history about that area. If you are gonna make reference to a song know who perfomed it, a book, know who wrote it and what it was about. This is true for all tangible things in your book that people can relate to or research later.
6. Start writing being especially careful to details and transition from one event to the next.
Hope it helps!! Good Luck!!

I think the best advice is just to start. Remember, you can always edit later. If you have an idea, write down the idea. Maybe keep a notebook that you write any ideas on that book or other books down in. If you're having trouble finding the way to tell the story itself, try getting a voice recorder and dictating the book, then typing it exactly as you dictated. Afterwards, when you read through it, you can decide what needs cutting, what needs more detail and if there's some additional parts you want to add. That's what I'm doing, anyway.
After you've got it about where you want it, have some friends and family members read it to get some feedback on what it needs to have added or taken out. Preferably people who are fans of whatever genre you plan to write in.

I think the best way to start is just to start with what you have, a desire to write a book without knowing where to start. That can be a start. Cheers!!
